We just received Owney on Friday, Feb. 16 at 2:30, in Alabama. We are having a party for him on Monday and mailing him out on Monday afternoon.
Florida 32311 Due 2/16/01
3/9/01 Owney arrived Thursday after we had finished our State Assessment Test. We had been testing all week and it was fun to get to do something completely different with Owney. First Owney was able to enjoy a snack with Tyler. He brought sunflower seeds. Owney gobbled them up. Next, Owney went to lunch with us and Amy shared her packed lunch with him. After lunch Owney wanted to take a nap in the garden among the mums. Next we went to special area. Thursdays we go to Art so Owney went right along with us. We are studying how to do portraits and Owney graciously consented to pose for us. Cacey and Tiffany really enjoyed sketching him in their books. Owney thought his portrait looked funny. We wondered if he had ever seen a picture of himself. Maybe that's why he laughed so hard. Finally, the last period of the day we went to Physical Education. We are doing gymnastics and owney wanted to be part of our pyramid. He really enjoyed that activity.
The next morning our class left for Epcot in Orlando, Florida. We were gone from 4:00 in the morning until 11:00 at night so we couldn't see Owney anymore. Mrs. Hoffman took him home to visit with her granddaughter, Lauren. Lauren is 5 years old and had a good time reading and snuggling with Owney. She cried when we had to put her in the mail to Georgia.
Georgia 30741 Due 2/22/01

Owney arrived in Rossville, GA in March and the kids just loved it. They were so excited to have him visit their fifth grade room. Sometimes we forget that the fifth graders love this type of activity as much as the younger ones. They really enjoyed looking at all the "treasures" in his box. Many of the students
remembered Owney from the past two years and were pleasantly surprised to see that he looked the same as last year. We are working on our postcards and
everyone should be receiving them soon.
South Carolina 29401 Due 2/27/01
Oweny arrived in Charleston on March 23, 2001. We had
a great time. We went to the beach and played
frisbee. Owney Loves Playing Frisbee! We sent the
frisbee with him and a small water dish, because he
was very thirsty after all the playing. He has a some
pictures from some of the places he saw in Charleston.
He also enjoyed playing on the joggling board with
his friend, Beau. We gave Owney some key chains as
well. We sent Owney on his way yesterday and hope he
has a safe trip to Monroe, NC. We will miss him and
we hope to see him again next year!
North Carolina 28110 Due 3/5/01
Owney arrived late in the day on Wednesday, March 28 in Monroe, North Carolina. We did not see him until Thursday. We were very surprised! It brightened a dreary rainy day. Owney spent the day with us painting flower pots into easter bunnies. He had to promise not to chase them all away!!
We have caterpillars resting in their chrysalis as well. Owney was hoping to stay and watch them become butterflies but he must be on his way to West Virginia! Back to the cold country for awhile! Mrs. Shultz is heading to Pennsylvania on Friday and will be driving right past Oak Hill! But Owney has decided to go by mail since that is his favorite way of travel!!

West Virginia 25901 Due 3/9/01
Owney made it to West Virginia this week. The children had just started their SAT-9 testing, so he had to wait until after lunch to begin his visit. The children visited with him in the room and took him to all the kindergarten, first grade, and other second grade rooms in the school. He also got to watch them do obstacle courses in gym. As always, Owney couldn't be better behaved. And the kids couldn't be more excited....well, maybe. Sadly, we boxed him up and sent him on his way to Maryland. For those of you who have signed his book, I believe the people at our school who signed the book put it up to about 1202. The children completed writing on the post cards under Owney's watchful eye. Mrs. Burns just has to affix the address labels and we will send them to you. A big thank-you to all the schools who have sent them.

4/17/01 When we got back to school after spring vacation, Owney was waiting for us. The class visited with him that day and then I put him in the mail (2 day priority) that afternoon. I will send you a little blurb when I get it from the class.

4/18/01 Owney arrived in Virginia on Wednesday after school. He helped us use Play-Doh to make the solar system today and managed to stay perfectly clean!
Tomorrow we are having an Owney party. He will go in the mail after school.

4/24/01 Owney arrived late this afternoon on a sunny 85 degree day. It's too bad we couldn't take him to the shore, but he did get a chance to enjoy recess with all of the second grade classes. Owney looked very happy to be wearing his pesonalized Delaware auto tag.

Pennsylvania 15905 Due 3/28/01
5/2/01 Dear Friends,
It is spring in Johnstown! I saw blossoms on the trees, and birds looking for little bits of dried grass to build their nests. I also met the new Fourth Grade Class at St. Clement School. The children marveled at all my tags and souvenirs; one boy r-e-a-l-l-y wanted to keep my "Titan Torch!" Luckily, Mrs. Samo told him that there were more classes
I had to visit, and more children waiting to see it. I didn't know that the Tennessee team had such enthusiastic fans in Steeler territory.
I got to spend a pleasant day learning with the Fourth Graders, and I got to go to library with them. We had a good time, and, like all the children I visit, they hated to see me go, but it wasn't long before I was on my way again. I hope to be in New York before the end of the week.
