A great run of shows!!
My friend Larry and I headed down to Santa Cruz
for the thursday show at
Palookaville
(site of an upcoming...mehehheh...I said coming...Jerry's
Kids show).
New owners and apparently some problems with their liquor
license,
so the only place to get alcohol was up on the balcony.
Food
and juices were available downstairs.
Very good show, it had me jumpin all night.
The show included such
favorites as
"I know you rider" and "jellyfish".
"Jellyfish" is a great
representation of the morning after
a tequilafest (my brain is like a
jellyfish
in the ocean of my head).
The next night took us back up north to the Fillmore.
Dan (some
might remember him from HSF)
returned that morning from a four month
stint
in Australia and still managed to swing by our
place for some
pre-show partying.
Mike came by and we headed for the airport to pick
up Pat
VWU alum and all around nice guy)
who was in from Dallas
for the weekend.
SCI was stoked to be at the Fillmore. They managed to hook up with
Darryl Angor of DGQ.
Soon after he joined the band we were treated to
some classic dog music.
The first set included some nice spacey jams.
The second set provided some great bluegrass/country sounds when the
mandolin player switches to violin and kicked in a smoking dueling
fiddle jam.
After Friday I was psyched about Saturdays show (I originally thought
three straight SCI shows might be a little much for me).
We spent a
relaxing afternoon of frisbee golf and headed for the show
(sans Mike
who actually blew it off to "work"??!??).
Artis the spoonman joined the
band a song or two
into the show and was as entertaining as ever.
Darryl
Angor came on afterwards for some more serious fiddling.
The second set included "Southbound"
(with Derek Trucks sitting in on
guitar)and of course more Anger.
Song highlights included "Resume Man"
and "Johnny Cash". If anyone is familiar with Resume Man,
they might be
amused to hear that the bassist cheated
to beat out the guitarist (who
always wins)
for holding the Resume Maaaaaaaan part the longest.
When
confronted he came clean and admitted
it was the only way he could win.
Check these guys if you can.
peace and good things,
-Mark
