Peter Apfelbaum& Hieroglyphics

June 98 ~ Great American Music Hall, SF

In other music news...
I caught another of my favorite live bands
- Peter Apfelbaum and the Hieroglyphics Ensemble -
at the GAMH on Thursday night.

Not many bands/artists have changed the way I think about
and approach music; the Hieroglyphics are among them.
Thursday was their first show in at least 3 years,
and as such I was a bit concerned that they might be a little rough around the edges.
But my fears were unwarranted -
they put on a typically great performance.

Watching Peter, Jai Uttal, Will Bernard, Jeff Cressman,
and the many (there's usually about 15 of 'em) other amazingly talented musicians in that band
jam and interact with each other is always a treat.

They announced that night that they are going to tour in the fall -
if you like jazz, esp. experimental, heavily world-beat influenced jazz -
I highly recommend that you catch them if you get the opportunity.
-Mike
