While no lack of miracle seekers
(although all offered $$, kind,
Ween,other),
it was not the mob scene I kind of expected.
True to their
word, they didn't let us line up til 4pm.
Somehow we scored the balcony
poll position.
Gordon was hanging out in one of the seats on a
cell phone
for a little while before the show.
Parisa and I were making some guesses pre-show and I offered
that I
almost didn't care which songs,
as long as we got a healthy dose of
page.
I received almost immediate gratification with a rockin
Ghost
that Page played some real nice leads on.
Great jam. Truly my favorite
from that grouping of
songs they broke out last year.
Water in the Sky and then Wolfman's Brother...more Page.
It was amazing how jazzed the crowd was. Gumbo was next into a truly
epic David Bowie.
I was expecting Maze after Page teased the opening,
but this was a DB
that you couldn't be unhappy with. Brian and Robert
wasn't really very memorable,
but it was fun to see Trey tease Fishman.
Probably the best Reba I've ever heard
into a long jammy Character Zero.
No real suprises or breakout songs,
but still a great first set. So
many really solid songs...
reminding me in spirit of the first 97 Gorge
show when they kicked it
through the whole set, yet still had the energy
to finish with a smokin SOAM.
Phish opened the second set with My Soul. This song is very special to
me as it defines phish in my eyes.
It starts out as this campy 12 bar
blues cover, emphasising the frequent
knock on phish that they got no
soul and can't make you feel.
As the jam cranks up they go some
incredible places and then Trey just
busts loose and you've just GOT to
feel something.
Then you see Trey's soul now people...it's his soul.
Chalkdust Torture was rockin and fun (especially since it's one of
Sherry's fav's.)
Next was Roget that doesn't really do much for me.
I
keep hearing Moma Dance and I still love it.
Great vocal trade-off's
and hot jamming what more can you ask for.
Wow == Wading in the Velvet Sea->Prince Caspian == Wow
Truly a suprise highlight. The Velvet Sea was tight and hypnotic into a
prince caspian that actually
won me over (never cared for it much before
that).
Frankie Sez, Birds of a Feather and Lawn Boy (with page walking out
front stage to croon). Harry Hood was great and certainly a
worthy
closer to a strong second set.
Somehow after all that music, they found the strength to give us Dirt,
and Limb by Limb.
Both strong, but by that time I was suffering from
music overload and I just didn't retain much of it.
A solid show through and through. More Fillmore magic.
