Wake and Bake[4]

[1] played about two bars of a rock type song and ended
[2] opening reminiscent of it’s the altitude (musically not lyrically)
[3] long jam with hyperdrew
[4] Wake and Bake after being essentially absent from the Fillmore and
Elevation (the mgmt turned the house music up over us )
shows we got a killer. Long jammy and with solos.

A real hot show. We were pretty jazzed for this after a fantastic show
at the Fillmore Saturday that featured the Soul Shakedown Party
and lots of Mark Vann on the banjo as
well as the Tahoe show at the Elevation.

We headed up to Petaluma soon after work for a fine dinner at the sonoma brewing company
(across the street and over a bridge from the mystic).
Sherry, my wife, had pumpkin brulee for dessert.
Oh no I thought we’re going 3 for 3 on mama boulets this weekend.
We laughed it off with a short parody
(ask her real nice she’ll add whipped cream for you)
and headed over to the show. A great place.
Old movie theater converted. Holds maybe 600-800. Real easy to move around inside
and not too much in the way of lines at
the bar (beer, wine and soft drinks only).

Another strong showing for Mark. He seems all to willing to sit back
and let Vince be crazy and watch Drew go.
I think it’s better for the overall experience when
he’s stepping up throughout the show.

The boys were juiced. Drew was uncharacteristically wacky going off on
the slide during Euphoria and Vince
was going off breaking stings on his new guitar on two separate occasions.
The medley at the end was great. Vince asked for requests and
almost included Planet Clair. Between Nobody’s business but mine
and Hotel Rockytop there was a great little jam that started off
as a banjo solo, picked up Tye on the bass
and finally Sipe jumped in with the sticks.
Nice.

I’m really liking the newer wave of songs
the Other Side and Midnight blues are certainly highlights.
Just before going into a song that I had not heard before and could not understand one word of
Vince announced that korn and ruth buzzi are a couple of his favorite performers.

I haven’t a clue who the guest drummer was,
but he was solid and they rocked while he was up there.
I was struck by how congenial Jeff was to lend his seat.

Well I gotta get back to trying to work.

Peace and good things, Mark
