Hi all,
So how was Saturday night? As great as Friday I'm sure.
Even better, I thought. They opened with a strong "Aint Gonna Work Tomorrow" and things just got better from there. The highlight of the first set for me was a very trippy/psychedelic "Green Thing," which at one point devolved into total space and another point into Other One teases before it came back into the song. Mark nailed this one; indeed Mark was very on all night.
The second set opened with River's Risin', which was right in there and was a great way to start the set. The drum/bass jam->funk jam->Funky Mountain Fogdown later in the set just wailed - way jammed out and way in the groove. There was a point somewhere in that Fogdown jam where I thought my head was going to explode from Too Much Fun. They had that rapper dude from Friday night ("Scotty") sit in again during Fogdown - he improvised lyrics to the normally instrumental tune. He did a great job and was even more in the groove (and less cheesy), I thought, than in his Friday performance. Polyethnic Cajun Rapgrass?!? Only at a Salmon show. They closed the second with an extended and dead-on Doing My Time, which had a blues jam sandwiched in the middle.
During the light show at various points they showed videos from Acid Tests, including several shots of a very young Grateful Dead. And at set break they showed video footage of Brent-era Dead, playing West LA Fadeaway (and maybe something else; not sure).
Now I'm getting psyched for High Sierra... Festival! Mike
