RGB colors made simple.

RGB is not a complicated scientific term, it means RED GREEN BLUE. RGB colors are described by a (on SVGA or larger displays) six digit number each of the three colors being two of the digits - rrggbb. so the number 862007 would be a basically red color (86 = red 20=green 07 = blue) The numbers are in base 16 ( which is also called hexidecimal). Base 16 is also simple to learn.

First, in base 10
376 = (3 x 10 x 10) + (7 x 10) + 6
with RGB colors, every color is discribed as a two digit number in base 16:
76base 16 = (7 x 16) + 6 = 118base 10
In base 16 the digits 0 - 9 are the same as base 10, but they needed to add digits for 10 - 15, so:

     Base 10      Base 16
      0 - 9    =   0 - 9
       a        =   10
       b        =   11
       c        =   12
       d        =   13
       e        =   14
       f        =   15

So bdbase 16 = b x 16 + d = 11 x 16 + 14 = 190base 10

The highest 2 digit base 16 number is
ff = 255base 10 so 00 is no color , ff is total color.

because the color monitor uses light adding more makes color lighter.
00000 is the absence of color - black.
ffffff is the presence of all color - white.
ff0000 is red.
00ff00 is green.
00ff00 is blue.
ffff00 is yellow.
ff00ff is fushia.
00ffff is cyan.
and intermediate values give other colors:
b00000 is maroon.
990000 is a darker maroon.
ff4040 is pink.
ff8080 is paler pink.
ffb0b0 is a paler pink.
