From the President

Potting Session - We will hold the first of our annual potting sessions at the Tassajara Nursery on Saturday, January 15th at 9:30am. Bring your trees, tools, and pots; potting medium will be available from the club for a small charge.

Demonstrations - This year K will bring into the meeting untrained material that he will prune, and wire into a certain style that he has selected. This will give us the opportunity to ask questions about the entire process of selecting, pruning, and wiring into the chosen style. This demonstration will be posted in the newsletter 1 to 2 months in advance there will be 3 to 4 of this type of demonstrations during the year. This will be great to watch a master at work.

Member Projects - Each member to bring a one gallon or five gallon plants to design as bonsai. This material must be selected from standard nursery material. The member must explain what they see in the plant to make it a beautiful bonsai and know what style tree influenced their purchased material. Every month the member is to bring the same plant in for one year to show and discuss progress.

Tree Exchange - To start off the new year with new plants we thought a tree exchange should be tried. This would give members the opportunity to thin out their collection of growing material, pre bonsai, or already established bonsai. The Idea is to give plants to one another just to share. If you have material to donate to the club to be sold then K will price to sell but if it does not sell you must take it back.

Membership - Our club needs new members!  If you have any ideas on how we might increase our membership, let us know.  And if you know anyone who might be interested in bonsai, bring them with you to one of our upcoming meetings.
