- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cups pecans
- Mix water and sugar in iron frying pan (this is best type to use) and heat until sugar dissolves.
- Add pecans.
- Cook on medium heat. When nuts become coated with sugar continue cooking and stirring until some of the sugar melts and coats part of the pecans.
- Pour the nuts onto a cookie sheet and bake at 300° about 30 minutes or until done.
- Spread on a brown paper bag to cool.
I add a few drops of red food coloring to give the pecans a nice pink look and makes them more festive.
Note that you use this very same recipe with peanuts.
Here is another recipe for pecans and I love this one. It is easy and the pecans freeze really well. I usually do my pecans the first of November and freeze them. I then have one less thing to worry about doing.
Toasted Pecans
- Toss pecans with a small amount of mayonnaise (about one Tbsp per pound) until they are moistened.
- Bake 350° for 15-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Sprinke with salt and cool.
These freeze beautifully.
