Yeah, I know... it's not the same as baking them from scratch, but when time gets tight, this is what I do:
Buy several rolls of Sugar Cookie dough (house brands are just fine) and you can add so many things to them to make them different. AND, you can get anywhere from 24 to 36 cookies, according to the size you want them.
To one roll of dough, add one/two of the following:
- 1 cup chocolate chips - I like the mini-chips
- 1 cup peanut butter chips
- 1 cup M&Ms
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans, walnuts, or sliced almonds
- 1 cup chopped cherries - I use red and green
- 1/2 cup halved macadamia nuts
- 1 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup oatmeal
You get the idea. Anything would work. Bake as directed on package, but less time for smaller cookies.
You can also roll the dough into 'large marble size', and then in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar, and you have about the same cookies as Snickerdoodles.
Another is to roll into balls and bake, and then roll in confectioner's sugar, for 'snowballs' or 'wedding cookies'.
There is no end to the possibilities. I get the sugar cookie dough when it's on sale.
