- 1 unbaked deep-dish pie shell
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda (divided)
- 1/2 cup + 1 tsp sugar
- 1/4 lb butter
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup hot water
- Combine flour with 1/4 teaspoon baking soda and the sugar. Cut butter into it.
- Separately, make a syrup from molasses, hot water and remaining baking soda.
- Pour 1/3 of the syrup into the unbaked pie shell. Sprinke with 1/3 of the flour mixture.
- Repeat until you have 3 layers of each ending with the flour mixture.
- Bake at 375° for 40 minutes.
- Make sure your will is secure enough to survive probate and slice yourself a piece.
