- 2 cups corn meal
- 1 Tbsp flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- Mix all dry ingredients together. Add onions, buttermilk and egg. Let batter stand 5 minutes (makes them lighter).
- Drop by tablespoonful into deep hot oil. Fry to a golden brown. Drain.
