- 5 cups pared, sliced apples
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- 1 cup firm brown sugar
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 Tbsp butter
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- Topping:
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 3 Tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- Prepare apples and place in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle with lemon juice to prevent 'browning'.
- Combine sugar and flour in a saucepan. Stir in water and molasses. Cook until thickened and mix in other ingredients. Pour over apples.
- To make 'Topping', sift dry ingredients together. Cut in butter. Add milk and stir until blended.
- Drop mixture by spoonful over apples.
- Bake at 400° for 35 minutes.
