Dough:
- 1 pkg yeast
- 1/4 cup water, warm
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk, scalded
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 tsp salt (I use less, say 1/2 tsp)
- 3 1/2 cup flour
- 1 egg
- Soften yeast in warm water.
- Combine scalded milk, sugar, shortening, and salt. Cool to lukewarm.
- Add 1 cup of flour; beat well.
- Beat in softened yeast and egg.
- Gradually add remaining flour, beating well.
- Cover and let rise in warm place until double in volume. (1 1/2 to 2 hours.)
Topping:
- 5 Large Granny Smith Apples
- 1 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tsp Cinnamon (I usually use more, just my personal preference)
- 4 Tbsp flour
- 4 Tbsp butter
- Peel and slice apples (thin slices, 1/4" thickness at most).
- Mix together sugar, cinnamon, and flour. Work in butter.
- Place now-risen dough on lightly-greased cookie sheet. Pat out as for pizza (don't roll). Dough should be 1/4" thick, perhaps a bit more, but not thicker than 1/2".
- Arrange apples in rows, pressing lightly into dough.
- Spread sugar-cinnamon mix over apples.
- Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
