justin timberlake may know that he's on top of the world, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he acts like it

we all know that being a member of nsync automatically entitles you to a few fabulous fringe benefits--like a stash of cash, luxurious limo rides and widespread fame, just to name a few. sounds like it would be super-hard not to let it all go to your head, huh?

for example, justin and his "i drive myself crazy" buds--lance bass, chris kirkpatrick, joey fatone and jc chasez-- are always dressed to impress in top-designer suits, trying to look as cool and savvy as possible, right? are you kidding? "all the clothes i wear are comfortable stuff," 18-year-old justin exclaims to bop.

as a matter of fact, if the casual cutie, who's currently back in the studio with his songmates recording the follow-up to their 1998 self-titled cd, had his way, clothing irons would be obsolete! "my clothes are always wrinkled up," he laughs. "everybody says, 'you need to iron your shirt!' i'm like, 'no, i don't, i'm comfortable.'"

instead of taking his star style too seriously, the rumpled rhythm-maker just goes with the flow--even when it comes to females! let's face it, being a mega-popular member of one of the coolest groups on the planet, justin has a fair share of girls (inluding you, of course) going ga-ga over him.

knowing this, he could have his pick of the divas who cake on the makeup and deck themselves out in designer duds and then drool over him at nsync's shows. but the truth is, the sweetie shares, he's not impressed by girls who get all glammed up. "i love a girl who doesn't wear too much makeup," he confesses to us. "the more natural she looks, the m ore sexy i think she looks."

as you can see, justin doesn't sport supermodel taste or a star-powered ego, which means he's not afraid to be himself--even if it means he ends up looking silly in front of a girl. "i know i've made a fool out of myself on first impressions," the babe blushes with his head down. "i always do some stupid thing."

speaking from experience, the smart cookie says, "i really don't judge people on their first impressions and i hope they wouldn't do the same." that's because whether you're a star or not, justin believes that being true to you is something everyone should do. "just be yourself," he states. "you're going to look so much more beautiful to everyone!"

justin may not take the superstar thing very seriously, but there is one thing he won't joke about: his music career. "i really have a love for music," the blondie beams. "and when i look at just the short-term accomplishments that nsync has made, i think we've succeeded because we love what we do!" well, justin, we do, too!

justin's favorite summer memory

if you take a poll of the nsyncsters to see who is most likely to escape the summer heat by vacationing in chilly siberia, we bet you a bijillion bucks that it would not be justin. that's because this memphis, tennessee native says that for him, the best thing about the summer has always been the sunny weather.

southern sun-seeker justin totally remembers how fun it was to play with his childhood pals during those hot summer days. "my friend had a pool, "justin, 18, fondly recalls of those simpler times. "i used to go over to his house and we used to swim over there."

nsync's justin timberlake: can guys and gals just be pals?

he believes that guys and girls can be friends and only friends. as a matter of fact, the 18-year-old memphis, tennesse-born talent tells us, "i probably have more friends that are girls than i do that are guys--besides the guys in the group, that is."

of course, he, too, has heard the rumors about his supposed romantic relationships with just about every girl he comes in contact with--including "sometimes" singer britney spears.

even cutie pie justin relies on his girl friends to give him the inside scoop on the female psyche. "it is easier to talk to a girl because she will tell you what you need to know," he maintains. "i mean, when you try to share your feelings with a guy, they try to listen, but they don't really know what to say."

justin's ruff memories

nsync's justin knows that losing a pet can seem like the end of the world. find out how this how this hottie handled his heartbreak.

with fame and fortune at his fingertips, it's hard to imagine how justin timberlake could be any happier. but when the 18-year-old babe bopped by our headquarters to hang, he couldn't contain the mile-long smile that swept over his face as he shared the story of his loyal dog, scooter, with bop's kristin.

"she was a mutt," he lovingly begins of the puppy he picked out when he was 6 years old. "one of the news channels was having a special program on dogs in the pound, so i went to the pound that day. i saw her, picked her up and she started licking my face." as any dog-lover knows, even one lap of the tongue is a sign of true love!

likewise, one look into her wide, puppy-dog eyes and justin was lost in love, too. "she was the cutest little thing," the mega-talented tunester, who helps sing "i drive myself crazy," says. "i was like, 'mom, this is the one.'" instantly connected, justin cuddled the feisty furball in his arms and he and his mom, lynn, headed for their memphis, tennesse home.

after years of ruffhousing and happy times, a 14-year-old justin's heart was broken when his family was faced with an ultra-tough decision. "scooter snuck away from home and got poisoned somehow," he glumly shares. "she went through this whole thing and she was suffering, so we had to put her to sleep."

anyone who's ever had to say a sad, soggy-eyed goodbye to a faithful pet they grew up with--be it a bouncy bunny rabbit, cute kitty or playful pooch--knows how hard it is to stay strong. "it was really tough on me," justin frowns, "because she was my dog, you know?"

his mom and stepdad, paul, knew the last thing justin wanted to do was run out and replace scooter. as a matter of fact, justin says, no pet, no matter how cuddly cute, could ever take the special place he has in his heart for scooter. so instead of rushing back to the pound, justin decided to pal around with his mom's dog--a cairn terrier named ozzie. "he looks just the toto from the wizard of oz, so she named him ozzie," justin instantly perks up. "he's the smartest thing--he's like a person. he understands what i say. he goes and gets the paper. he does so many tricks--he claps his hands, he exercises, he rolls over."

his heart may have mended, but the curly-maned maven maintains that he will always hold a special spot for scooter.
