SR 1-Piece Tubular Crank

SR 1-Piece Crank
This is not your ordinary one piece crank, this sucka is hollow!
In an effort to try and compete with aluminum cranks and the recent tubular cro-mo 3-piece cranks, SR (Sakae Ringyo) made their 1-piece lighter by making it tubular, as in, hollow!.  The diameter of these were slightly larger than standard 1-piece for added strength but I think it still wasn't enough?  I seem to remember kids tweaking these cranks but I never was brave enough to give them a try myself so I have no first hand knowledge of any breakage.

The pictured crank is a 165mm and has never been used.
If you had went down to the shop when these came out in 1985, you would have laid down around $32.95 for these shinny 1-piecers.
I believe these were the lightest 1-piece cranks made at that time and maybe ever!
I don't know of any manufacturer still producing a crank like this so I am led to believe that it didn't hold up to well.  Maybe with today's manufacturing skills they could make a set of these that would last?
