Autism

There are few things more heartbreaking than finding out that there is something wrong with your child. For many parents, there is a diagnosis of something they have at least heard of, treatable or not, mostly a cut and dry case of anything from retardation to cancer. Now, before you start sending me hate-email, I know these things are hard to deal with and it does break my heart to hear of any child whose life is not perfect, but there is another challenge parents are facing, in my opinion, it is far worse than hearing that my child may die. I know mine will not, I know that physically he is as healthy as an ox, but mentally, I have not a clue what his life will be as a result of his disorder. No doctor can assure me that he will be okay, no person can tell me that any one thing will work to help him progress, there are no guaranties in Autism, you are in a constant state of questioning yourself. Will he ever have friends? Will she ever go to the prom? Will my child ever honestly know who I am and that I love him with all of my heart? There are mothers out there that will never know what it feels like to give their child a hug or a kiss good night. There are others that somehow manage their way through piles of books, articles, medical journals, and borrowed items from the local library, whom someday manage to get their child to finally say "I love you!" And even after the initial shock of hearing those beloved words, it is always in the back of their minds... was it a case of echoing again? Does my child understand what he just said? Autism for parents is the never answered question, even the most highly trained autism experts can only give a round about half answer as to the why's and how to's when it comes to our children. This has left a piece of me empty, partly broken, and my heart aches whenever I think of the brutal reality that plagues our precious children. I hope as you read through these pages, and browse through the links, you are able to obtain some information useful in helping a child with autism. I plan to have many links, to as many different theories and treatment programs as humanly possible, for no one thing helps each child. I also hope that you will find strength in the stories and journals posted here, as they are real and I have found them inspirational. To those whom are here for informational purposes only, I thank you for your inquiry, please try to educate as many people as possible about autism, it definitely needs to be addressed! And for those parents of children within the autistic spectrum, know that you are not alone, and that no matter how hard times seem to be, there is always hope! ***This site is under MAJOR construction, please come back later to learn more about Autism!
