About the Chumash Indian Painted Caves

For those who like challenging adventure, the Chumash Indian Painted Caves are worth the effort. Had I known in advance, I may not have attempted the journey up the very steep hill, especiall with my full-size Dodge van. The road is very windy, and extremely narrow!!! But, it was worth it all!!! You must keep your eyes on the road, and watch very carefully for the small sign, on the right. The sign is just before a hairpin turn to the left. The sign points to the opposite side of the road, where the caves are. You really cannot see the caves very well from the road, until you actually stop your vehicle, and get out and look up the steep hill.

D irections: From Santa Barbara, take Highway 154 to the Painted Cave Road junction. Turn right, and drive 2 miles to the marker.
