THE WILL OF DAVID GROOM

Filed by David GROOM on May 3, 1859, BOOK F; pg. 403; State of Iowa, Appanoose County Records.

I, David Groom of the County of Appanoose and the Sate of Iowa, do hereby make my last wills by me at anytime heretofore made. I hereby direct that Mary Ann E. Groom, my wife, act as Administrator of my Estate, if I die before I return from Pike's Peak. I hearby authorize her to sell all of my lands, if she wishes, and to pay all just debts against me and all debts that she may contract to support the minor children, With the remainder of the proceeds of the sale of the land she is to buy other lands and to have the use of the same so long as she remains my widow. The rest is to be divided equally between my children. If S.W. Groom and M.D. Groom, my sons, stay at home and help their mother maintain the smaller children, they shall have two thirds of the personal property and proceeds of the farm after she and the children are maintained. The land that I authorized Mary Ann E. Groom, my wife, to sell and make a deed for is the South East Quarter of Section 2 and North Half of the North East Quarter of Section 11 in Township 70 North of Range 16 West in Appanoose County, State of Iowa, containing 240 acres. Witness my hand this 3rd day of May A.D. 1859.
