Hestia

Hestia, thou who tends the holy house
of Lord Apollo, Pythian, shooting far.
Thou having hair that drips with silky oil,
approach this house and enter, of one mind
with all wise Zeus; and for my song grant grace.

Hestia was the first daughter to be born to Cronus and Rhea. She assumed the position of the protector of the house and home. She tended to the great hearth that was constantly kept burning in the centre of the Hall of the gods. Hestia was one of the three virgin goddesses, along with Athena and Artemis. She had no children, and never showed any interest in any other gods or mortal men. She was also a goddess of peace, disdaining violence of any sort, and rarely did anything but tend to her duties in the Hall of the gods. She was the gentlest and most soft spoken of any deity, often keeping to herself and letting others do as they will, only giving advice when it was warranted. She had no enemies; all of the gods loved her, and did whatever they could for her without asking for any favors in return.

Apollo was her favorite nephew, and she would spend a lot of her time at his palace on the eastern most point of the world where the sun would rise everyday. There she would tend to the palace in Apollo’s absence, keeping it orderly. He was the only god that she would actually spend time with outside of the hall.

Mortals would pray to Hestia in order to keep their homes safe from theft and accidents. Her compassion was unmatched by any other god when it came to caring for mortals. She was by far the most faithful goddess to her worshippers, and cared for them as if they were her own children. Women that spent their days at home would most likely pray to Hestia to keep their home and family free from difficulty.
