Kickass Bands

Below, you will find pictures and links to some of my favorite bands...be forewarned...they are not your mainstream, happy, pop bands. Enjoy!!! I have also included "Recommended cd's" so you will know what is worthwhile to buy. "Deadk's band rankings" are based on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best.

Slayer

Slayer is a speed metal band from Hermosa Beach, CA. Their songs concentrate more on the darker things in life...and death. I highly recommend listening to Slayer. They do metal like no other band can.

Recommended CD's:Divine Intervention, Reign in Blood, South of Heaven.

Deadk's band ranking: 9

Current Band Members: Tom Araya, Jeff Hanneman, Kerry King, Paul Bostaph

the Melvins

Beyond description. I hated the Melvins when I first heard them. They were loud, obnoxious, and lacked any kind of order in their music. Now, the reasons I hated them are the reasons I love them. Able to take one monotonous, repetive hook, and turn it into a great song. Able to mumble out unintelligable lyrics, but still seem to have a much deeper meaning. They are, without out a doubt the most creative, intelligent, obnoxious bands ever.

Recommended CD's: Houdini, Stoner Witch, Stag, Ozma

Deadk's band rating: The Melvins range from a 1 on their worst songs to a 10 on their best...overall though, they an 8 in my book.

Current Band Members: King Buzzo (Buzz Osbourne)-pictured, Dale C., Mark D.

Dead Kennedys

The Dead Kennedys...one of the best, yet underrated punk bands of all time. A few words to describe the Dead Kennedys: Anti-Censorship and Sarcasm Galore!!!

Recommended CD's: Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, Give Me Convenience...OR Give Me Death

Deadk's band rating: 7

Former Members: Jello Biafra, Klaus Flouride, Ted, East Bay Ray

The Misfits

One of the first "true" punk bands I ever started to listen to...thank you to my former guitar teacher, Rob, for practically forcing me to listen to them. The Misfits played what you might call "horror-punk" with songs like "Bullet" (about JFK's assasination) and "Horror Business" (based on the movie Psycho). Unfortunately, the Misfits broke up around the mid-80's because of disputes between then lead singer, Glen Danzig, and bassist, Jerry Only, over where the band was headed musically. The Misfits have started to tour again with a new lead singer, but frankly, the "new" Misfits suck ass. Listen to the stuff when Danzig was the lead man.

Recommended CD's: BUY THE BOX SET!!! Or if you don't want to shell out $60 for the box set, buy "Collection I".

Deadk's Band Rating: With Glen Danzig as the singer, an 8...with the new guy, a 2.

Best Misfits line-up: Glen Danzig, Jerry Only, Doyle, Robo
