History

After the death of Garfield Logan in the year 2003, Bette Kane found herself in a very uncomfortable position. She was pregnant with Logan's child, and after his death, she didn't know how she could continue on alone. Feeling the need for support, Bette turned to her close friend and former Titans West partner Charlie Parker, then the Global Guardian named Hawkman. Charlie stayed next to Bette during the remaining months of her pregnancy, helping her with every step of the necessary preparations. After the birth of Katherine, Bette and Garfield's daughter, Bette felt incredibly grateful for all of Charlie's support. This gratitude led to love, and Bette and Charlie found themselves entering into a very serious relationship.

The love between Bette and Charlie only grew with time. The two former Titans felt very happy together, and when Bette found time out of caring for Katherine, they took every opportunity to see each other. It wasn't very long before Bette found out she was pregnant once again - now with Charlie's child. The pregnancy was very unexpected, and caused some conflicts in their relationship. Charlie wasn't sure if he was ready to be a father, but still felt willing to act mature and take responsibility. He proposed to Bette, to which she accepted. Nine months later, Bette gave birth to their child - a brown haired, blue eyed little girl. Their daughter was named Elizabeth, after her mother. Unfortunately, the responsibilty of raising a child proved very damaging to the relationship. As time went on, Bette and Charlie frequently found themselves at odds with each other. After consulting numerous friends and family theripests about their problems, the couple decided to call off their engagement and end the relationship. Despite this, Charlie promised to continue being a very important part of little Elizabeth's life.

Elizabeth (or "Liz" as she was called) spent most of her days being raised in California with her mother, but spent most weekends on New Thangar with her father and his Hawk "family." Bette raised Liz to be a very athletic and glamorous girl, entering her in many beauty pagents and fitness/sports teams. And with the thousands of dollars that her parents had saved from working on the financially backed second Titans West team, Liz always had the best that there was. During her frequent visits to New Thangar, Liz learned about the legacy of the Hawkmen and about the various roles that the Hawkpeople have played in history from her father. Liz grew up aware of the unusual life of a superhero, but still became the most popular girl in school despite, never once mentioning to friends that her parents are heroes.

Liz dreamed of becoming a superhero; one that symbolized the legacies of both her parents. When she was 14, Liz approached her mother with the idea. Bette was pleased with her daughters decision, as she liked the idea of her daughter possibly becoming a new Flamebird. With this, Bette began to train Liz in the martial arts and acrobatics, even designing a costume for her daughter to wear. Within a year, Liz had learned all that there was to know from her mother, and was actually more than ready to become a hero right then and there. But Liz wanted more - she wanted wings to fly, like her father had. When she asked Charlie to train her in Thangarian style fighting and flight, he immediately said no. He wanted to spare his daughter some of the heartache he suffered as a Titan. Liz begged her father to teach her, but he stuck by his decision, and told her never to ask him again.

More determined than ever, Liz approached her godmother, Kendra Saunders, and asked her to train her for flight. Kendra knew that she shouldn't go against Charlie's orders, but she saw a bit of herself in Liz. Kendra told Liz that so long as they kept the training secret, she would show her the ropes. Kendra taught Liz how to fly with a new pair of Nth metal wings, and trained her how to use ancient weaponry and whatever few Thangarian techniques Kendra had learned. With her new set of wings & the costume her mother designed, Liz put her talents to the test and became GoldBird (a name derived from her parent's former codenames, Golden Eagle and Flamebird).

Charlie Parker has (reluctantly) accepted the fact that Liz is her own hero, but still refuses to fully train her in the Thangarian fighting style, he has however, sent her to the States for enrollment in the Theodore Knight Academy in hopes her career choice won't kill her. Liz secretly hopes to someday impress her father enough to win his training and his old Golden Eagle wings.

Powers and Abilities

Elizabeth posesses wings made of Nth metal, which enable her to fly at incredible speeds. She has also mastered several types of martial arts, and has created a type of in-air combat unique to herself alone. The technology in Goldbird's mask grants her great vision abilities, and can also be used to send out blinding flashes of light. In battle, Liz has shown keen interest in using Ancient Egyptian scimitars, a trait she must have picked up from Kendra.

Liz is, however, still very young and inexperienced. She has also on occasion portrayed the same "pretty valley girl" attitude that plagued Flamebird in the early part of her career. Together, these traits may be her main weakness.
