Chapter 3

September 1st

Kelly heard her phone ring and tried to ignore it. "Go away or leave a message, I am trying to sleep here." Kelly said underneath her covers. She grabbed the phone and yelled into it, "HELLO!!" "Kelly, Oh god I forgot about the time change. I can call you back later. I am sorry to have woken you up." Kevin said rather embarrassed. Kelly threw the covers back and sat up in bed. She rubbed her eyes making sure she was awake. "Hi there. I um, well, yeah you woke me up but I needed to get up anyway. How are you?" Kelly said glancing down at her non-existent belly. "Well I am doing fine. I heard from Aj that you guys are going to the concert in San Jose. Does this mean I will get to see you?" Kevin asked sitting down on his couch. "Yes, I would assume so since Aj got us backstage passes. It should be fun." Kelly tried hard to keep herself calm. She was amazed at what his voice could do to her. She wanted to just shout out that she was carrying his baby but she knew it wasn't the time or the place. "I know that I didn't keep to my promise with keeping in touch. It's just been very hectic and a lot has gone on with me." Kevin stated loudly. "Look you don't need to give me explanations. You have your life and I have mine. They don't match and that is fine." Kelly said rather defensively. "Whoa, wait a damn minute. Why are you getting all defensive? You knew what existing baggage I had. And yes our lives are completely different but that doesn't mean I don't still care for you. For Christ Sake Kelly we made love or did you forget that too!!" Kevin said shouting back. What Kelly wanted to say was, "Yes I remember I have your child." But she went in a different direction, "Yes, Kevin I remember. It was wonderful. Look I have to go. I guess I'll see you when you are in San Jose." Kevin heard the dial tone and slammed the phone down, "God damnit, I am trying to make an effort doesn't she realize that!"

September 5th

"Laura would you hurry up the cab driver is getting impatient! We are going to miss our flight!" Kelly yelled out in the hallway. "I'm coming!!!" Laura yelled back. They made it to their airport just in time and plopped down into their seats. "Man that was a workout!" Laura said a bit out of breath.

Kim's house the morning of September 5th.

"DING DONG!!!" Kim heard the doorbell echo through the house. She pulled on her robe and made her way downstairs. She peeked through the door hole and saw all of the guys standing there. "Oh my lord!" Kim said opening the door. She was greeted warmly with hugs and kisses. "We have a huge favor to ask of you. Pretty please!" Aj said with the guys giving her puppy dog looks. "The hotel messed up our reservations and we need somewhere to stay until later tonight. They said they would have it ready by 9pm." Aj continued hugging her tightly. "By the way nice robe!" Aj finished giving her a wicked look. Kim was still trying to wake up, "Yeah, you guys can stay here but I will warn you it's going to be a full house. Kelly and Laura are coming up tonight, they'll be here around 7:30 or 8:00. Nick seemed to be excited at the prospect of seeing Laura again. Kevin looked as if he had mixed emotions. "Where's Leighanne?" Kim asked Brian. "She's coming in tomorrow. She can't wait to meet you." Brian replied hugging Kim tightly. "You barely look awake, you could go back to bed if you want. We'll keep it down." Howie said smiling at her. Nick screamed, "YOU'VE GOT DREAMCAST AND NINTENDO 64!!!!!" Kim couldn't help but laugh, "Well they are my brother's, so don't break them otherwise I will have to pay dearly." They all made themselves comfortable and a few were even raiding her refrigerator, which she was glad she had stocked a few days before. "Guys I am going to go up and take a shower, be back in a few." Kim said walking up the stairs. She walked into her room and sat on her bed breathing a sigh of relief. She strolled into the bathroom and turned on the shower. "Would you like company? I am feeling rather grimy." Aj said startling her. "CRAP!!! DON'T DO THAT! Are you trying to give me a heart attack?" Kim said clutching her chest and realizing she was standing there naked. She tried to grab the robe but Aj stopped her. "It's not like I haven't seen you like this before." Aj said pulling her close to him. "Aj, I know. But it is just that well um, oh hell come on in." Kim said waving her fingers as she stepped into the shower. Aj tore his clothes off and joined her in more than just a shower.

"How much you wanna bet that Aj is taking a shower with her?" Nick said barely glancing up from his game. "Nick, who gives a rat's ass." Kevin said rather annoyed. "Damn I hope they don't use all the hot water I wanted to take a shower." Brian said flipping through a magazine. 20 minutes later Aj came bouncing downstairs and was fumbling through his bad. "Have a nice shower Aj?" Nick asked laughing. "Shut up Nicky boy!" Kevin was in the kitchen on the phone, "What day is it? Hold on there is a calendar right in front of me." He flipped to the back to the next year's dates and looked down at February and gasped when he saw the little note beside the month. He abruptly hung up the phone and grabbed the calendar and stormed upstairs. Everyone saw Kevin and wondered what had gotten into him. He stomped into Kim's room, "YOU MIND TELLING ME WHAT THE HELL THIS MEANS?" Kim saw that he had the calendar in his hand, "What are you taking about?" Kevin flipped it once again to the back and thrust the page in her face, "THIS!!! BABY DUE DATE FOR KELLY? SHE'S PREGNANT?" Kim tried to remain calm but he was seriously pissing her off, "You are a smart guy what the hell do you think!" "Don't play dumb with me. You better tell me now, I have a right to know especially if it is mine!" Kevin said slightly lowering his voice. "Well I shouldn't even be the one telling you, but yes she is Kevin and it is yours." Kim replied anxiously awaiting his response. Kevin was clenching his fists and his face was turning red, "WHY THE HELL DIDN'T SHE TELL ME? I MEAN IT IS MY CHILD TOO!" Kim had just about had it with him and started to yell back, "MAYBE BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T FOLLOW THROUGH TO YOUR WORD AND DIDN'T KEEP IN TOUCH WITH HER. MAYBE BECAUSE YOU TREATED YOUR TIME TOGETHER LIKE SOME CONVENIENT FLING. AFTER HEARING THE REASON AS TO WHY YOU ENDED YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH KIRSTIN I WONDER HOW MUCH COMPASSION YOU HAVE IN YOU KEVIN!" The guys downstairs were debating on whether or not to go upstairs and see what was going on. They practically had heard everything that was said. "I can't believe she is pregnant. Holy shit!" Nick said whispering. Aj snickered at the way Kim wasn't backing down with Kevin yelling at her like he was. "Look Kevin, I am not going to assume to know what is going on in your head right now. I will tell you this. Kelly is having a hard time with this pregnancy. The hormones, the emotions, just everything. All I ask is that when and if you talk to her that you go easy on her. Now if you'll excuse me I need to get something to eat." Kim said leaving Kevin standing in her room alone. He was not only angry but also confused and hurt.

They sat there both in silence for a while. "I guess I should go talk to him." Kelly said standing up and managing to smile. Kim nodded. Kelly opened the door to find Kevin standing in the doorway getting ready to knock. "Looking for me?" He asked. "Yes actually I was. Shall we find a place to go and talk?" Kelly asked. Kim watched them walk towards another room and hoped things would work out as best they could.

"AJ PAY ATTENTION TO THE BARBECUE. YOU ARE GOING TO BURN EVERYTHING!!!" Brian shouted seeing the flames shoot up. "Take it easy there Rok. Dinner's done." Nick walked out with the plates and handed them out to everyone. "Those look good. I'll have a burger." Laura said. Aj saw Kim walk out, "Hey, what's your poison?" Kim laughed, "Hmmm, I'll take one of the chicken fillets." She sat down next to Howie and finished arranging her food on her plate. "You going to eat or play with your food?" Howie said playfully nudging her. Kim gave Howie an evil glance, " Oh, hush you. Anyway, how's Claudia?" Howie swallowed a bite of food, "She's good. She'll be here tomorrow as well." Aj cleared his throat motioning Howie to move. "Aj there are plenty of places to sit go find one." Aj lightly stomped his feet, "I want to sit next to Kim." Kim shook her head in disbelief, "Oh just sit down would you." Laura had finally noticed that Kelly and Kevin were no where to be found, "Um, where's Kelly and Kevin?" Everyone turned their heads towards Kim. "They are talking. Hopefully they'll be down soon." She hadn't heard any yelling, which was a good sign. Right at that moment she would have killed to be a fly on the wall.

"So how far along are you?" Kevin asked trying to keep his temper from exploding. "I am 14 weeks, 15 weeks on Saturday." Kelly replied softly. "Shall I just ask all the questions that I want to hear an answer from and we'll go from there?" Kevin said sarcastically. Kevin saw her nod and began with all the questions. "Were you planning on telling me? Are you keeping it? How are you feeling? And lastly, I don't care what happens between us, I will be in your life because the baby is also mine and I intend on being responsible." Kelly sighed and took a few deep breaths before responding, "To be quite honest with you I was busy with dealing with my emotional needs and getting them in order and dealing with all the hormones and the morning sickness. I hadn't decided on whether I was going to tell you and if I was how I was going to do it. Yes I am keeping the baby, I'll find someway, or if worse comes to worse I would have considered adoption. How am I feeling? I don't think there are enough words to describe what my body is going through not to mention my brain going at a million miles a minute. The baby is doing fine and I am doing the best I can. The last remark you made, at best, angered me. Don't care what happens? How insensitive can you be? Yes it is a fact, the baby is yours. We should have been more responsible the night we were together but that is in the past. We can't go back and redo it. This baby deserves the best. If I have to raise him or her on my own I will give it all the love I can. I have people who love me and will support me." Kelly stopped for a brief moment and saw that Kevin was staring at her. "I don't know what happened between you and Kirsten, but it's really none of my business. You two seemed happy and I am sorry it ended. Just so that you know, my parents don't know about this baby. That is a whole other subject I don't care to discuss." Kevin looked down at the floor, "What about us?" Kelly couldn't believe he asked that. "Us? Are you delusional? There is no us Kevin. Whatever we had ended the day we left Sweden. Whether or not that was your intention I have no idea and I don't really care to know. I think it would be best if we just tried to be friends." Kevin had so many things he wanted to say to her but couldn't seem to verbalize them. "If you'll excuse me I am hungry and I need to eat. I'll see you downstairs." Kelly said slowly getting up. She stopped briefly and kissed him on the cheek and then walked out the door.
