Death Of An Innocent

I went to a party, Mom, I remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom, so I drank soda instead.
I didn't drink and drive, Mom, even though the others said I should.
I know I did the right thing, Mom, I know you are always right.
Now the party is finally ending, Mom, as everyone is driving out of sight
As I got into my car, Mom, I knew I'd get home in one piece.
Because of the way you raised me, so responsible and sweet.
I started to drive away, Mom, but as I pulled out onto the road,
the other car didn't see me, Mom, and it hit me like a load.
As I lay here on the pavement, Mom, I hear the policeman say,
the other guy is drunk, Mom, and now I am the one who will pay.
I am lying here dying, Mom...I wish you'd get here soon.
How could this happen to me, Mom? My life just burst like a balloon.
There is blood all around me, Mom, and most of it is mine.
I hear the medic say,Mom, I'll die in a short time.
I just wanted to tell you, Mom, I swear I didn't drink.
It was the others, Mom, the others didn't think.
He was probably at the same party as I.
The only difference is, he drank and I will die.
Why do people drink,Mom? It can ruin your whole life.
I am feeling sharp pains now, pains just like a knife.
The guy who hit me is walking,Mom, and I don't think it's fair.
I'm lying here dying and all he can do is stare.
Tell brother not to cry,Mom, tell Daddy to be brave.
And when I go to heaven,Mom, put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave.
Someone should have told him, Mom, not to drink and drive.
If only they had told him, Mom I would still be alive
My breath is getting shorter, Mom, I'm becoming very scared.
Please don't cry for me, Mom, When I needed you, you were always there
I have one last question,Mom, before I say goodbye.
I didn't drink and drive, so why am I the one to die?

Hello everyone, I am Amanda, and though I have told you lots about me and my family there is still so much to know. The poem you just read was an article in a newspaper a long time ago that my moms friend cut out a stuck on her fridge. Now I went to meet her and I saw them. There were two clippings that she had kept. The one above and another one about a dog that was given to the humane society. The both struck my heart. This one especially. You see I am 18 years old I party all of the time I know what it is like to drink with your friends. It is fun. But no one ever thinks about the concequences anymore. I have a few stories to share with you on my past experiences and if you don't mind sticking around to read them I would be much obliged and maybe you will be one of the many people that stand behind me when it comes to drunk drivers.

OK, well when I was fifteen like any normal teenager I had older friends with cars and liked to hang out and party and have fun. One night I was with my cousin and a few other friends of ours and we decided that we were going to go for a ride around the town and see what kind of trouble we could get ourselves into. Two of the guys had their own vehicles, so we piled into them and away we went. DRUNK. We decided we were going to play a game. This is winter time by the way and the roads were pretty icy. Main roads better that back roads. They were turning off their headlights and driving down this backroad where it was pitch black, no street lights, nothing. The driver upahead hit a batch of ice did four donuts in the middle of the road and went into the ditch sideways. I was in the second vehicle and we were far enough behind that the driver could keep it under control. Luckily no one was hurt.

A couple of days ago there was a very tragic accident near my town. A father and his two sons were killed in a car accident. Reason for death: Alcohol The family was struck by a drunk driver. They say on the news it is the worst explosion they have seen in years.

Now that you have found out more about me and thought a bit more about driving drunk.
I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
