SCPASA Minutes 
September 14, 1997 


I.  Call to Order of SCPASA was called by Chair Jerry Torne on Sunday,
September 14, 1997 at 12:15 p.m. at FPAC in Cabrillo Beach, San Pedro..

II.  Roll Call: (15 schools present) Cal Poly Pomona, SDSU, Occidental,
CSUDH, CSUN, USC, UCI, UCR, CSUF, CSULB, LMU, CSUSM, UCLA,
UCSD, UNLV..

III.  Welcome:  Members of the SCPASA Old Board and New Board that
were present were introduced expressing their sincere wishes and goals for
the
upcoming year.

IV.  Guest Speakers:
A.  Joel Jacinto, Executive Director of Search to Involve Pilipino
Americans
(SIPA), spoke about services SIPA provides in the areas of health, family
and
youth, and community. Projects included are Pilipino AIDS Task Force and
Affordable Housing..
B.  Jerome Academia, Chair of Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture
(FPAC), spoke about using FPAC as a tool for any Filipino Club
Organization
needing assistance with their PCN's or any other projects involving
Filipino
Performing or Visual Arts..
C.  Rachel Cometa, Co-Chair of Filipino Civil Rights Advocates, LA Chapter
(FilCRA-LA), inquired to any Filipino Club interested in hosting a FilCRA
meeting/workshop to discuss issues regarding Filipino Civil Rights..
*** All three guest speakers shared a high interest in working with any
SCPASA school by providing whatever means of assistance to the Filipino
student organization..

V.  Nomination Information:  There are still 6 vacant positions that need
to
be filled on the '97-'98 SCPASA Board. Positions include:  Treasurer,
Internal
and External Public Relations Rep, Cultural Chair, Social Chair, and
Community Chair. Information regarding the duties of each position was
directed to the SCPASA web page. More information will be given on the
Sept..
28 meeting..

VI. Bids for Next Meeting
        September 28-UC Irvine 
        October 12- CSU Fullerton

VII.  School Announcements:  (MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!)
UC Irvine-Event on Sept. 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Emerald Bay.  Planning to have
an
intercollegiate PCN next month. Eight schools have already participated
with
UCI. Date for their own PCN is scheduled for May 2, 1998..
NFYA (National Filipino Youth Association)- Arnel Dino talked about a
proposal to host the 7th National Conference in '98-'99. Last Year's
conference
was held in Stockton last month at the University of the Pacific..
CSULB-Date for PCN has been scheduled for March 7 & 8, 1998..
LMU-Date for their HaloHalloween Jam will be on Friday, October 24..
Occidental-Auditions for Tim Cordova's play "Heart of the Son" will take
place on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. at the Philippine
Consulate in
downtown LA..
Cal Poly Pomona-Date for Sportsfest has been tentatively scheduled for
March
27, 28, & 29..
Date for their PCN has been scheduled for April 18..
CSUF-Date for Friendship Games is scheduled for October 18. Schools will
need to pay the $20 fee. New schools to participate at the Games will be
Michigan State, University of Michigan, and Wayne State University, all
from
Michigan. The Holiday Inn Hotel in Placentia is offering a discount to
schools
needing accommodations during the Games. Just mention CSUF. Hosting an
event on Saturday, Sept. 27 in Costa Mesa..
USC-"Troy Phi: The Movie" will be shown on Friday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m..
in
Hoffman Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m..
CSUN-FASA will be holding a Support for Pilipino-American History Month
(SPAHM) in October. Check out their website for more info..
SDSU-Event to be held on Friday, Sept. 26 in the Eastlake Clubhouse. Boone
Elementary Mentor Program Orientation to be held at UCSD on Sat. Sept. 27..
Tryouts for the Samahan Modern Dance Troupe will be hld on October 9..
Hosting a Pre-Friendship Games picnic for all San Diego area colleges at
Bonita
Cove on October 11..
