The Dow Jones average was begun at the turn of the Century.
Adding the 30 industrials is easy; the tricky part comes from the 'divisor'
a factor that varies almost daily.
The divisor adjust the average for splits or a change in a particular
stock. The divisor on 3/12/99 =0.22522. the divisor appears
in the Wall Street Journal and can be very difficult to find,
but is usually in the "Market Section.
