Suspension

The suspension system consists of torsion bars and sway bar up front and leaf springs in the rear. Most Fifth Avenues came stock with 4-leaf springs, although some had 5. Some M-bodies also had 6-leaf springs, although not many. Police or taxi package Dodge/Plymouths came with a heavier front sway bar and a rear sway bar. Both of which can be added quite easily to a civilian moodel or Fifth Avenue.

The torsion bars in the front can be adjusted to comphensate for wear, and also to adjust the height of the front. With age the leaf springs are suseptable to wear, especially the 4-leafers. The easiest way to correct for this, or to raise the rear (other then getting new springs) is to have a leaf added to each side. A truck or spring shop can usually do this for you at decent cost.
