Acting!

Ever felt like you wanted to be someone else? Acting is a fun way to become somebody else, with different lifestyles, and different problems. It also gives you a chance to see what is like in someone else's shoes. But this type of acting is only one way of many different types of acting. In a play, you become someone. A comedian keeps to his normal self, but tells jokes. When doing improvs (unwritten/planned skits that come off the top of your head) you learn to think and act like other people, possibly making impressions of other people!

In the summer of 95, I was sitting on my couch, thinking about what I could do with my acting skills. All of a sudden, this idea popped into my head. "What if I could get some of my younger friends together and turn them into a performing group?" I didn't think my mom would approve, but she did. Never underestimate the power of imagination! Between '95 and '98 we put on just under ten performances and ran several rounds of acting lessons. We got together every weekend and rehearsed or performed excercises and skits, and practiced putting make up on. It was lots of fun! By the end of a one-two week series of rehearsals that are 2-3 hours long, we performed for our families and friends.
This is a great way to put your acting talents to use. I would only suggest that you always be light and friendly to your students. Also, I have found that if you are in your teens, like me, use only younger kids then yourself. Peers can try to criticize what you are doing or take over the group themself.
