MAJOR COLLECTOR SALE #1 -- THIS SALE CLOSED 7/29/05

ITEM #201 – CHARLIE BARNET & HIS ORCHESTRA, "SOME LIKE IT HOT" – Swing Era Records LP-1002

Here's MF with the Barnet Orchestra on an increasingly hard-to-find LP from the 1970s. The reason it's so hard to locate is that MF is heard prominently on the track All the Things You Are! He just SCREAMS on this one!! The cover on this copy looks very nice, but has had a price sticker scrape repaired at upper right. (It's a dull black cover, and someone used a dull black marker to fill in the torn spot, so it's not too noticeable.) There's a small bump on the opening edge, and the seam is split 2" at upper right. The top seam and left spine both are badly rubbed, and you can see the underlying cardboard on both. On the back, a bit of ring wear is visible, along with the number "811" written in ink at upper right. This cover is just GD+ -- it's a notch below average. The vinyl, however, is a very clean and nice NMINT, tending toward NMINT+. It's just super! Yours for $20.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #202 – LOUIS BELLSON, SKIN DEEP – Verve MGV-8137

Here's MF with the Bellson band from the early 1950s. He plays on the tracks Skin Deep, Caxton Hall Swing, Phalanges, and For Europeans Only. Swingin' stuff! The cover on this one has a 100% seam split at top and a 100% spine split at left. Remarkably, the bottom seam is completely intact. (I will be glad to repair the two splits for you prior to shipment, if you like.) The front paper shows significant cover wear, and there's a bit of ink at upper right. There's a bend in the bottom, right hand corner. The back shows heavy surface wear, and there's a little water stain at right. I'd rate this one as GD -- a full notch below average. The vinyl looks like it's been played quite a bit, and there are a number of light surface scratches which can be heard in places as light "ticks", and in other places as backgound noise. It's VG- to VG. Overall, this copy is GD+ to VG-. It's not the greatest copy, but keep in mind that NMINT copies of this LP sell in the $60.00 range. This one is just $20.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #203 – JUNE CHRISTY, THIS IS JUNE CHRISTY! (UK PRESSING) -- Capitol CAPS 26 0051 1

Here's one of the rarer June Christy LPs, with MF on the tracks Whee Baby and You Took Advantage of Me. It's very hard to find here in the U.S., and even better, this copy is a UK pressing. The cover is super clean and nice, but it's got a 1.5" seam crack at top center and a 0.75" seam crack at bottom center. They're hardly noticeable. There's also a silver import sticker on the back. Still, this is a very clean and nice copy, and rates a NMINT-. The vinyl is absolutely pristine! It's NMINT++!! Overall, this copy is NMINT. Yours for $45.00.
THIS ITEM FAILED TO SELL.

ITEM #204 – BING CROSBY, BING SINGS THE GREAT STANDARDS -- MGM Records E-4129

Here's an interesting item. This is essentially the "Bing Sings Whilst Bregman Swings" LP, but it's in a totally different, re-issue cover, with the title you see above. This is actually only the second copy of this LP I've ever seen! The cover is completely different from the "Bing Sings" cover. This cover is really clean and nice, but does have a core hole at bottom left (a cut-out item). Too bad. This reduces the cover from NMINT to just EX+. The vinyl is super clean and nice -- NMINT+. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT, with the only problem being the core hole in the cover. Yours for $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #205 – JIMMY DORSEY AND HIS ORCHESTRA FEATURING MAYNARD FERGUSON, "DIZ DOES EVERYTHING" -- Big Band Archives LP-1216

Here's the great 1970s LP of MF featured with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. His circa 1967 photo appears prominently on the back cover. The cover on this one is super clean and nice. It looks like it was just removed from the shrink wrap. The only problem is an ultra-minor little ink mark at upper right. Looks like someone just bumped it with a pen. It's still easily a NMINT cover. The vinyl looks like it was only played a couple of times, and the only problem is a tiny little sleeve scuff in one spot. It's also easily NMINT. Overall, this copy is a clean and nice NMINT. And … it's got a nice personalized autograph by MF on the back: "To XXXX, Maynard Ferguson". $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #206 – FRANCES FAYE, BAD, BAD FRANCES FAYE – Bethlehem BCP-6006

Maynard played valve trombone on this very interesting LP under the direction of conductor Russ Garcia. He's listed, along with Frank Rosolino on the back cover as "Two Others". The cover on this one is just absolutely pristine! It's NMINT+. The vinyl is, without question, MINT, never played! Overall, this one is in NMINT++ condition. Yours for $30.00.
THIS ITEM FAILED TO SELL.

ITEM #207 – FRANCES FAYE, FRANCES FAYE SINGS FOLK SONGS – Bethlehem BCP 6017

For some reason, this LP is quite hard to find, and is quite pricey. It's got MF on trumpet, backing Frances Faye, and under the direction of Russ Garcia. The cover on this one looks very nice from the front. However, the seams aren't too hot. The top seam is split 5" at upper right. The bottom seam has a 4" crack at bottom center, and a 0.5" split at lower right. The left spine is completely split open. The backing paper shows moderate surface wear. Overall, this cover is VG -- just average. The vinyl has a number of scuffs and light scratches, and although there were no skips or major pops on the portion I listened to, there was some definite backgound noise in the softer passages. I'd rate is as VG to VG+. Overall, this is a nice, average, VG copy. Normally selling for $45.00 to $50.00, this copy is just $20.00.
THIS ITEM FAILED TO SELL.

ITEM #208 – FRANCES FAYE, I'M WILD AGAIN (SPANISH PRESSING) – Fresh Sound FSR-2031

Here's a Spanish pressing of the Frances Faye LP with MF on valve trombone, under the direction of Russ Garcia. The cover on this copy is just absolutely pristine. I'm going to go out on a limb here and call it MINT! The vinyl is MINT, never played. Just a super, high-quality pressing in superb condition. Yours for $35.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #209 – LEONARD FEATHER PRESENTS, ENCYCLOPEDIA OF JAZZ ON RECORDS -- VOL. 5 – MCA 2-4063

Here's a hard-to-find double gatefold compilation LP that has MF on the track Deep Down, led by Sal Salvador and recorded 4/23/58. This copy is a gold-stamped promo version. The gatefold cover is black, and like most black LPs, it's got a little ring wear visible. Otherwise, it's a clean and nice cover, and rates a NMINT-. The discs are ultra clean and nice -- NMINT+, and possible MINT, never-played. Overall, this copy is NMINT. Yours for $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #210 – ELLA FITZGERALD, ELLA FITZGERALD SINGS THE RODGERS AND HART SONG BOOK, VOLUME 1 (CANADIAN PRESSING) -- Verve MGVS-64022

Here's MF with the Buddy Bregman Orchestra backing Ella on a number of tracks. The cover on this one is the blue background, original type cover with Ella's chin resting on her hands. There's a Verve "STEREO" sticker at upper right. It's clearly a Canadian cover, and it's in NMINT- to NMINT condition. Very nice. The vinyl likewise is identified as Canadian, and it's got a few light scuffs and surface scratches. It's EX. Overall, this one is EX+. Yours for $20.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #211 – ELLA FITZGERALD, ELLA FITZGERALD SINGS THE RODGERS AND HART SONG BOOK, VOLUME 2 – Verve MGVS-64023

Here's Ella on the "nine hearts" type cover of the Rodgers and Hart Song Book, Vol. 2. The catalog number on the front cover is what you see above, but on the back and on the spine, it gives the catalog number as V6-4023. This appears to be a U.S. pressing, and it's in STEREO. This copy is MINT, FACTORY SEALED, with the only problem being that the shrink wrap is almost opened at right, and on the back, it came loose in a spot and there's a tiny bit of brownish toning under that spot. Still, it's a super copy. Yours for $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #212 – RUSS GARCIA, FOUR HORNS AND A LUSH LIFE – Bethlehem BCP-46

Here's MF with the Russ Garcia Orchestra on valve trombone. The cover on this one is a rather famous Burt Goldblatt design, and it's highly sought-after by jazz collectors. The front paper is just really pristine on this LP. The top seam has a 5" crack at center, and on the back, there's some surface wear, light water stains in a couple of places, and a tiny bit of the backing paper torn away at upper left. Still, this is a clean and nice cover, overall, and rates an EX. The vinyl has quite a few light surface scratches. They definitely can be heard as background noise on playback. I'd rate it as VG+. Overall, this copy is in the EX- range -- a bit better than average, but with several small flaws. Normally selling in the $45.00 range, this one is just $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #213 – RUSS GARCIA, I'LL NEVER FORGET WHAT'S HER NAME, WITH MAYNARD FERGUSON -- Bethlehem BCP 6044

Here's a Russ Garcia re-issue LP from the 1980s with MF on valve trombone. The cover on this one has just the faintest hint of some ring wear, just beginning to form. The left spine is a bit rough in the center, and there are a couple of very faint creases in the cover in a couple of places. I'd rate it as NMINT-. The vinyl is scuffed a bit in places, but looks hardly played. Someone wrote 299 in a circle at the top of one label. So the vinyl is NMINT-, as well. Overall, this one is NMINT-. But wait! This one is nicely autographed by MF on the front in silver marker. Yours for $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #214 – RUSSELL GARCIA, LISTEN TO THE MUSIC OF RUSSELL GARCIA AND HIS ORCHESTRA -- Kapp Records KL-1050

This is a rare LP of the MF with the Russ Garcia Orchestra. I seldom see a copy. The cover on this one looks very, very nice from the front. It's still relatively clean and bright, with no visible damage. The top seam is split 8" at upper right, and the spine is completely split at left. The bottom seam, fortunately, is intact. On the back there's some surface wear visible, but it's relatively clean and nice. Overall, mainly because of the seam splits, this cover rates an EX-. (If it weren't for the splits, it would easily be EX+.) The vinyl has a series of ultra light, parallel surface scratches on side 1, but almost no problems at all on side 2. I'd rate it as EX. Overall, this copy is EX- to EX. I once saw a NMINT copy fetch nearly $80.00 at auction. This one is still well worth $30.00.
THIS ITEM FAILED TO SELL.

ITEM #215 – BOB KEENE, THE BIG BOB KEENE BAND, DANCING ON THE CEILING -- Whippet WLP 701

Here's a rare LP of MF with the Bob Keene Orchestra. The front cover literally has a couple "dancing on the ceiling." I keep wanting to turn it upside down so that it looks right. The top and left seams on this copy are fine, but the bottom seam is 100% split. The front paper is nice and clean, but there's a light bend at lower left. The back shows just a bit of the normal surface wear you'd expect on an LP from this era. I'd rate the cover as EX-, overall. The vinyl, on the other hand, is VERY nice -- NMINT! Overall, this copy is EX+. Yours for $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #216 – JOHNNY RICHARDS, SOMETHING ELSE BY JOHNNY RICHARDS – Bethlehem BCP 6011

This is the original 1950s Johnny Richards LP with MF on trumpet. The cover on this one has clean and nice front paper. There's a little rubbing a couple of places on the spine, and there's a 2" seam split at bottom right. The back has a bit of the typical surface wear and toning that you find on cover from this era, and the small letters "NR" are stamp on the back near the top right corner. I'd rate it as EX- to EX. The vinyl is quite nice -- NMINT-. Overall, this copy is EX to EX+. A nice, solid, well-above-average copy, it's yours for $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #217 – ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK RECORDING, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM – Decca DL 8257

This is the great jazz score to the Golden Arm movie starring Frank Sinatra. MF was, of course, in the orchestra for this one, conducted by Elmer Bernstein. Shorty Rogers did the jazz scoring, and it's a really grooving soundtrack. MF is not listed on the cover, but it's common knowledge that he played on this recording. The cover on this copy has some light surface wear, front and back. There's a little rubbed spot on the very tip of the bottom right-hand corner, and a tiny little bump on the spine. Still, it's a nice, solid cover, with no seam splits or other problems. It's EX+ to NMINT-. The vinyl has some light scuffs and surface scratches that don't significantly affect play. I'd rate it as EX- to EX. Overall, this copy is EX. Yours for $22.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #218 – PETE RUGOLO, OUT ON A LIMB – EmArcy MG 36115

Here's a relatively rare Pete Rugolo LP with MF. The front cover has a tree with brass and reed instruments perched on the branches. I seldom see a copy. The front paper on this one is just outstanding -- probably the nicest I've seen on this LP. The edges and backing paper, as usual, have a bit of the typical brownish EmArcy "toning" that prevalent on these covers. There's just a little rubbing present on the seams and spine, but some seam splits. I'd rate this cover, conservatively, as EX++, but every dealer I know would call it NMINT-. The vinyl has the original pressing silver "drummer" on blue backing paper, and its only flaw is a few tiny, ULTRA light scratches, strictly on the surface, clustered in one spot. They absolutely do NOT affect play. The vinyl is easily NMINT-, and I'm going to "go out on a limb" (pun intended) and call it NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT-, one of the nicest I've seen. A relatively rare LP in super condition, $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #219 – ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK RECORDING, WHITE CHRISTMAS – Decca DL 8083

Here's the original 1950s LP of Irving Berlin's White Christmas soundtrack. This may be the most famous of all the movies MF played on, with the possible exception of The Ten Commandments. The cover on this one has a faint scratch on the front paper (about 3" long) that I didn't even notice until I inspected it very closely. Otherwise, the front is nearly perfect. There's a tiny bit of seam wear, but nothing important, and there's a dime-sized tear on the back where a price sticker was removed. It's a nice, clean cover rating an EX. The vinyl has the original 1950s label, and it's in NMINT- condition. Overall, this copy rates an EX+. Yours for $20.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #220 – PETE RUGOLO AND HIS ORCHESTRA, AN ADVENTURE IN SOUND -- BRASS -- Mercury MG 20261

Here's MF with the Rugolo orchestra from the late '50s. This is the original mono pressing. The cover is super clean and nice. The only flaw is a tiny corner bend at upper right, but it's only visible from the back. There's a factory inspection rubber-stamp on the back, but these in no way detract from the value or appeal of the LP. It's NMINT. The vinyl is likewise clean and nice -- NMINT. This is one of the nicer copies I've seen. Yours for $25.00.
THIS ITEM FAILED TO SELL.

ITEM #221 – JAZZ THEMES FROM THE WILD ONE – Decca DL 8349

The Wild One soundtrack comes as a 12" LP, 10" LP, and EP, in tracks by both Leith Stevens and Shorty Rogers. Maynard plays on both. This one is the 12" Leith Stevens LP on Decca. It's got a great picture of Marlon Brando on the cover, and it books in my soundtrack guide for $45.00. It dates to 1956. The cover on this copy is really clean and nice, but there is a pea-sized spot on the left front where it's been abraded a bit. There's a 1.5" seam split at upper right. Otherwise, this is a clean and nice LP, and I'd rate it as EX+ even with the small problems. The vinyl is ultra clean and nice -- it's hard to believe it's an original pressing, but it absolutely is the original Decca disc. Just fantastic, it's easily NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT-. One of the nicest you'll find, it's $35.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #222 – PETE RUGOLO AND HIS ORCHESTRA, INTRODUCING PETE RUGOLO – Columbia CL 635

Here's the original 12" LP that launched Pete Rugolo on Columbia. Maynard's right in there, blazing away! This is really a GREAT LP! The cover on this copy has a little light surface wear, but it's minimal. There's a small piece of Scotch tape on the bottom, right-hand corner repairing a small seam split. It's just slightly yellowed. Overall, I'd rate this cover as EX+. The vinyl is clean and nice, with just a few ultra light surface scratches. It's EX+ as well. Overall, this copy is EX+. Yours for $24.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #223 – PARAMOUNT PRESENTS BEAU JAMES, THE LIFE AND TIME OF JIMMY WALKER -- Imperial LP-9041

Here's Maynard on the great, ultra hard-to-find 1957 Paramount soundtrack recording of the famous Bob Hope movie. The cover on this one looks almost new from the front, but there's some seam wear (mainly in the corners), and quite a bit of surface wear visible on the back. I'd rate it as EX+. The vinyl is ultra clean and nice, and looks like it might have been played just once. It's NMINT to NMINT+!!! Overall, this copy is NMINT-, and is very hard to find in ANY condition, much less this nice condition. Yours for $35.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #224 – PETE RUGOLO, MUSIC FOR HI-FI BUGS -- EmArcy MG 30682

Here's another great Pete Rugolo LP with MF. This one, as you probably know, has a whole herd of big, UGLY bugs crawling across the front cover. The front paper is laminated, and the laminate is clouding just a tiny bit. Sometimes these EmArcy covers cloud completely up, but this one is very minimal. There's a little wrinking in the laminate in the bottom right-hand corner. The seams and spine are intact, and there's just a little bit of the typical brownish toning around the edges. There's a small rectangular spot on the back that's darkened a bit -- no doubt where a price sticker once resided. I'd rate this cover as EX. The vinyl has the original silver on blue drummer label, and it's NMINT-. Overall, this copy is EX+ -- a very nice, solid copy. Priced at $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #225 – THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK RECORDING FROM DINO -- Epic LN 3404

Here's another relatively rare soundtrack with MF. This one starred a very young Sal Mineo, and it's a driving jazz score. Maynard is even credited on the back cover on this one, which is rare for his studio days. The cover on this one is looks fantastic from the front, and the back is nice, too, except for a bit of surface wear. Someone has carefully reglued spine cracks top and bottom, but they did a nice job, and they're hard to spot. I'd rate this cover as NMINT-. The vinyl has a few light surface scratches, but it hasn't been played much. It's EX+ to NMINT-. Overall, let's call this one EX++ -- a very nice, clean copy. This LP lists in my soundtrack book for $75.00, and I've seen copies sell for that much or more at auction. This is a nice, solid, copy, and is easily worth the asking price of $50.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #226 – PETE RUGOLO, ADVENTURES IN RHYTHM (DUTCH PRESSING) – Philips B 07049 L

This is an original Dutch pressing, with a unique cover, unlike any of Rugolo's U.S. LPs. The cover has a 1/4" tear on the opening slit, some light record ring wear, and some seam wear. There's also a few light foxing marks on the back. I'd rate it as EX-. The vinyl has some definite, but quite light scratches, mainly on side 1. It's EX. Overall, this copy is EX- to EX. Very, very hard to find in the U.S., it's $28.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #227 – ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK RECORDING, THE ROSE TATTOO – Columbia CL 727

This is a soundtrack from a famous Burt Lancaster film, with, of course, MF in the orchestra. It dates to 1955. The cover on this copy is quite clean and nice. There's a very slight bend in the upper right-hand corner (only really visible from the back side), and on the back there's a little visible record ring wear and a pea-sized ink mark. I'd rate the cover as EX++. The vinyl is REALLY nice -- easily NMINT, tending to NMINT+. It looks barely played. I'd rate this one as NMINT- overall. A nice clean LP. Listing at $45.00, this one is $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #228 – PETE RUGOLO, NEW SOUNDS – Harmony HL 7003

Here's a relatively hard-to-find Pete Rugolo LP with MF. I seldom see a copy. The front paper on this one is clean and nice. There's a tiny bend in the bottom, left-hand corner, two spine cracks at left, and two tiny holes in the top seam. Definite ring wear is visible on the back, along with a very light stain in one corner. It sounds like there are a lot of problems, because I'm being very careful to describe everything I see, but in actuality, it's a relatively clean and nice cover. I'd rate it as EX-. The vinyl has several light scuffs, but it's quite nice, overall -- NMINT-. Overall, this copy is in the EX to EX+ range. Due to the small cover flaws, it's just $22.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #229 – ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK RECORDING, FUNNY FACE – Verve MGV-15001

Here's the original 1950s gatefold LP of Maynard under the direction of conductor Adolph Deutsch on the soundtrack recording of Funny Face. The movie starred Fred Astaire, Audrey Hepburn, and Kay Thompson. This is a GREAT Gershwin score, and it's one of my favorites on which MF played. The cover on this one is relatively clean and nice, with the only problems being a 2" seam split at upper right on the back cover, and a tiny bit of wear inside the gatefold. It's NMINT-. The vinyl has a few ultra fine scratches, but they don't affect play at all, and it's otherwise super clean. I'd give it a NMINT-, as well. Overall, this copy is NMINT-. And, inside the gatefold is the following personalized inscription and autograph: "For Vince, With All Good Wishes, from Kay Thompson." Listing at $35.00, the soundtrack collectors would go nuts for this, and would pay even more for this autographed copy! It's yours for $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #230 – PETE RUGOLO AND HIS ORCHESTRA, BRASS AT WORK -- Blue Ribbon BRM-8001

Here's MF with the Rugolo orchestra from the late '50s. This is a compilation LP of several tracks with MF from the Mercury catalog. These are relatively hard to find. This one is mono (they also come in stereo), and the cover is NMINT. The label on the vinyl has a little brownish "foxing" on one side, but otherwise is clean and nice. There are a few very, very light surface scratches. I'd rate the vinyl as NMINT-. Overall, this one is NMINT- to NMINT. Yours for $28.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #231 – ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK RECORDING, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS – Dot DLP-3054-D

This is the original mono pressing of The Ten Commandments from 1956, and of course, Maynard was in the orchestra, conducted by Elmer Bernstein. This is undoubtedly one of the earliest covers to be issued as a double-LP gatefold, and it's just spectacular. Record collectors, in general, go nuts for these original mono Ten Commandment LPs, and I've seen them priced in record stores and at record shows for $75.00, and even $150.00. (Of course, I "passed" at that price, as it was outrageous. But it's truly a beautiful LP cover.) The cover on this one has some light record ring wear, but otherwise, it's in just spectacular condition. It's still NMINT. The vinyl has a few light scuffs and one or two ultra light surface scratches, but it plays great! It's NMINT-, tending toward NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. If you've been waiting to snag a really nice one, this is it! In my mind, a major bargain at only $45.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #232 – PETE RUGOLO AND HIS ORCHESTRA, RHYTHM MEETS RUGOLO – Mercury MG 36115

Here's the Rhythm Meets Rugolo LP with Maynard. The cover on this one has a bit of surface wear, front and back, and a very small bend in the upper right-hand corner. Both are relatively minor. There's also a little wear along the opening slit. Still, the cover easily deserves an EX+. The vinyl has a few light scuffs and very light scratches, and rates an EX+. Overall -- EX+ -- a nice, solid copy. Yours for just $22.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #233 – ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK RECORDING, OMAR KHAYYAM / THE MOUNTAIN -- Decca DL 8449

Here's Maynard on the great, ultra hard-to-find 1957 Paramount soundtrack recording. He doesn't play on Omar Khayyam, but does play on The Mountain (one side of the LP). It's got a classic 1950s cover -- really retro!! The cover on this one has nice, clean front paper, a tiny bend on the very tip at upper right, a little wear on the seams, and a tiny bit of wear on the back. Still, it's one of the nicest covers I've seen. It's EX++. The vinyl has several light scuffs and surface scratches. It plays fine, but with just a bit of background noise in places. It's EX-. Overall, this is a nice, clean copy, well above average -- EX to EX+. Listing at $45.00 in NMINT condition, this copy is yours for just $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #234 – PETE RUGOLO, RUGOLOMANIA -- Columbia CL 689

Here's another great Pete Rugolo LP with MF. The cover on this copy has ultra clean an nice front paper, completely intact seams, and a nice clean back. The only problem is a spot on the back where the backing paper has a very minor tear from a price sticker removal, as well as a three little lines made by the sticker itself. There's also another dime-sized spot that slightly yellowed from the removal of a price sticker. So, other than these two sticker spots, you've clearly got a NMINT cover. Let's call it NMINT- due to these two small problems. The vinyl easily a clean and nice NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. It's yours for $25.00.
THIS ITEM FAILED TO SELL.

ITEM #235 – ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK RECORDING, WHITE CHRISTMAS (UK PRESSING) – MCA MCL 1777

Here's a tough LP to find. It's the same LP as lot #219, but this one is the UK pressing. It's similar, but slightly different to the lot above. The cover on this one is just ultra nice and clean -- NMINT+!! The vinyl is MINT, never-played!! This super LP is yours for just $22.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #236 – PETE RUGOLO AND HIS ORCHESTRA, ADVENTURES IN SOUND -- BRASS – Mercury SR 60044

Here's the STEREO version of this great Rugolo LP with MF. The front cover on this one shows some light surface wear. The laminate is coming loose from the cover on the left edge, and there's a bend and 1/4" tear at the opening slit. There's a little "ding" near bottom center. The seams show some light wear, and the back has some surface wear, water stains, and a price sticker. This cover is just VG- … not quite average. The vinyl's the nice thing about this LP. There are a few very light surface scratches visible, but it plays great, and it's in NMINT- condition. Overall, this copy is EX-. The cover is substandard, but the vinyl's great. A nice copy for listening or CD ROM burning. $20.00.

The cover on this one is near-perfect -- just a small bend at upper right. It's NMINT. The vinyl is MINT, never-played!!! This copy is NMINT+ overall. An original in this condition would be worth $75.00. This nice re-issue is just $25.00.

ITEM #238 – VARIOUS ARTISTS, INDIVIDUALS, JAZZ GREATS FROM CBS RECORDS – Columbia A2S 512

There are two different Columbia LPs entitled "Individuals," so check the catalog number carefully to make sure you have this one. This one is a double gatefold LP from 1978 with MF on Theme From Battlestar Galactica. The cover on this one, like most, has some definite record ring wear visible, both front and back, on the predominantly black cover. There's also a slight crease at lower right on the front flap. Otherwise, this is a solid cover, and easily rates an EX+. The vinyl is NMINT except on side 3, where it's NMINT-. Overall, this copy is NMINT-. $22.00.

ITEM #239 – VARIOUS ARTISTS, SCREWBALLS OF SWINGTIME – Bandstand Records 7106 BS

Folks, here's one I had never seen before, and had no idea MF was on it. Our collector friend had two, and he sold one to me outright, and here's the other one for one of you lucky collectors. This is a big band compilation LP with the Stan Kenton track Blues in Burlesque which, of course, includes MF. It's a sort of funny LP. The cover says, "Rated X -- LIMITED EDITION For Collectors Only" (huh???), and it's got a collage of pictures on the front of such performers as Kenton, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, etc. It says, "Featuring Charlie Barnet, Will Bradley … and Numerous Other Famous Goofballs." It's a rather odd collection of items, to say the least. Commenting on the Kenton track, the liner notes say, "This gem by Stan Kenton features some of the most hilarious blowing by one band you'll ever hear, with Maynard Ferguson leading the way on one part, and Shelly Manne screaming his way through part two." Folks, this one is certainly 'different.' The cover on this copy is a clean and nice NMINT. The vinyl is never played -- MINT condition. Overall, this one is NMINT+. Yours for $65.00.

ITEM #240 – FANIA ALL-STARS, SPANISH FEVER -- Columbia JC 35336

Here's MF guest-starring with the Fania All-Stars on this interesting 1978 Latin-inspired LP. The cover on this copy has a gold promo inscription on the back. There's some definite surface and record ring wear, front and back, and there are small pieces of transparent tape for reinforcement at upper right, upper left, and lower left. I'd rate this cover as EX-. The vinyl has white promo labels, and there are several long scuffs that don't significantly affect play, but don't look all that great, either. It's EX. Overall, this copy is EX- to EX. $20.00.
