Marsha Hunt 45s with Maynard Ferguson

MARSHA HUNT, KEEP THE CUSTOMER SATISFIED/LONESOME HOLY ROLLER (U.K. RELEASE) -- Track Records 604037

Amazing things continue to happen. Recently the MF collecting community was surprised to learn that Maynard went into the studio in England in 1970 with pop star Marsha Hunt and laid down the two tracks that we find on this 45. Hunt was in the original cast of the musical "Hair," and she was skyrocketing to fame as this 45 was released. The first track was the Paul Simon (of Simon and Garfunkel fame) tune reissued in a wailing bluesy R&B style. Maynard can be heard screaming in the high register throughout most of the tune. On the flip side, Lonesome Holy Roller is credited to Hunt/Ferguson (at least on SOME COPIES; on others it's credited only to Hunt), so it appears that Marsha and Maynard wrote it there in the studio and laid it down in an improvised style. Likewise, Maynard screams in a number of spots on this track, as well. I even heard one account that said Maynard directed the session! Regardless, this is a rare treasure that was unknown to the MF community until recently. An absolute MUST in every serious MF collection. These came in generic sleeves, NOT picture covers. Serious collectors may want to get the version where Lonesome Holy Roller is credited to BOTH Hunt and Ferguson, as well as a copy that's credited only to Hunt. If anyone knows why this was different on some copies, let me know.
SORRY! NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

MARSHA HUNT, KEEP THE CUSTOMER SATISFIED/LONESOME HOLY ROLLER (GERMAN RELEASE) -- Polydor 2121 002

Here's the German pressing of this great little 45. The German ones come in picture covers. The graphic is a photo of Hunt surrounded by some psychedelic graphics. Very rare. I've only seen a very few copies of this German version of the 45.
COPY #1. Just in, the picture cover on this one is clean and nice, with the only problems being a 2" seam split at right and a few small little holes in the thin paper cover. Still, it's a quite decent EX- to EX. The disc has clean and nice labels, and the vinyl rates a NMINT-. This nice, solid copy is $11.00. BONUS! THIS 45 RPM DISC COMES WITH A TRANSCRIPTION CD OF THE TWO TRACKS, RECORDED FROM DISC.

MARSHA HUNT, KEEP THE CUSTOMER SATISFIED/DESDEMONA (GERMAN RELEASE) -- Polydor 2058 961

Here's an interesting variant. This one is a German pressing with the track Keep the Customer Satisfied (with MF) and Desdemona (without MF). It comes in a picture cover. The cover has the words "GOLDEN / GREATS" in large, gold block letters on the top half of the cover. At bottom right is a photo of Hunt. At bottom left is the track listing. The background color is a sort of rust brown. Very rare. I've only seen a very few copies of this German 45.
COPY #1. This is the first copy of this rare little 45 I've ever had for sale on the website. The picture cover on this one is clean and nice, with the only problems being a 1" seam crack at left middle and a 1" seam crack at right middle (it's a top-opening sleeve). So the sleeve is NMINT-. The disc has clean and nice labels, and the vinyl rates a NMINT. This nice, solid copy is $16.00. BONUS! THIS 45 RPM DISC COMES WITH A TRANSCRIPTION CD OF THE TWO TRACKS, RECORDED FROM DISC.

MARSHA HUNT, KEEP THE CUSTOMER SATISFIED/LONESOME HOLY ROLLER (NEW ZEALAND RELEASE) -- Polydor 2121002

Here's an interesting variant. This one is a rare New Zealand pressing with the tracks Keep the Customer Satisfied and Lonesome Holy Roller, both with MF. It comes in a stock New Zealand Polydor cover. Very rare. I've only seen a very few copies of this particular 45.
COPY #1. This is the first copy of this rare little 45 I've ever had for sale on the website. The stock Polydor sleeve is faded and quite rough. (Fortunately, factory sleeves don't matter much on 45s.) The disc itself has a few very light surface scratches which are visible under a high-wattage bulb. I played it, and there's a little background noise, but nothing major. The Side A label has a little wrinkle on it where a price sticker was apparently removed. I'm going to call this disc EX, but it plays EX++. This nice, solid copy is $10.00. BONUS! THIS 45 RPM DISC COMES WITH A TRANSCRIPTION CD OF THE TWO TRACKS, RECORDED FROM DISC.
