Alan Haven LPs with Maynard Ferguson
ALAN HAVEN, HAVEN FOR SALE (UK PRESSING) -- CBS S63681
Sometime I find it hard to believe all the things MF played on back in 1969 when had more or less "disappeared from the radar" here in the U.S. -- things like the Ballad Style of MF LP and the Maynard and Gustav LP. This is another one of them, and it's got MF guest soloing on this hip, jazz/rock-oriented LP which features organist Alan Haven. Now folks, I'm not much of an organ fan, but this guy is GOOD! He really knows how to play the instrument in a way that's hip, funky, and upbeat! And MF really comes through with solos and section work that's outstanding. Tracks include Deep Purple, Norwegian Wood, Going Out of My Head, Our Day Will Come, Love for Sale, Lover Man, etc. This is the original, CBS STEREO UK release from the year 1969, and it's very, VERY hard to find!!!
COPY #1. The cover on this one is near-perfect on the front, and except for a couple of tiny spots of toning on the back, it's nice, as well. I'd rate this cover as NMINT- to NMINT. Very nice. The vinyl has quite a few surface scratches, and it plays with significant background noise in places. I'd rate it as VG to VG+. Overall, this is a decent copy. Yours for just $10.00. COPY #2. This one has a fairly clean and nice cover. The front paper is very nice. There's a small bend to the bottom left corner. On the back, there just a bit of toning and surface wear. I'd rate this cover as EX+. The disc is quite nice, as well. I listened to it throughout, and there's definitely some background noise in spots, but the fidelity is great, and I'd rate the overall disc as EX. Yours for $14.00. COPY #3. This one has a really clean and nice cover. The only issue is a tiny nick at the opening slit. I'd rate this cover as NMINT-. The disc is quite nice, as well. NMINT. COPY #1. Just in, the cover on this one has just the faintest hint of some record ring wear starting to form. It's very minimal, and the cover is still easily NMINT. The vinyl has a couple of ultra light surface scratches. They don't affect play, and the disc is still NMINT- to NMINT. Overall, this copy is a clean and nice NMINT. Yours for $22.00. COPY #2. Just in, the cover on this one is clean and nice, with just the faintest hint of record ring wear beginning to form in a couple of places. On the back, a little surface wear is visible, and there are some extremely light water stains along the edge in a few places. I'd still rate this cover as NMINT-. It's just very clean and nice. The vinyl is nearly pristine, but does have one small scratch that causes some light clicks on one track during playback. So it's NMINT-, as well. Overall, this copy is NMINT-. COPY #3. Just in, the cover on this one is relatively clean and nice. It's NMINT. The vinyl has one extremely light scuff per side, and neither affects play. It's likewise NMINT.
