Jimmy Dorsey LPs with Maynard Ferguson

JIMMY DORSEY AND HIS ORCHESTRA FEATURING MAYNARD FERGUSON 1948 (FRENCH RELEASE) -- Jazz Anthology 30 JA 5221

Here's an incredibly rare French LP. You could look for 10 years and not find one of these. The title is, to the best of my knowledge, incorrect. Maynard did not play with Dorsey in 1948. Rather, these tracks probably date to early 1949. The tracks include Diz Does Everything, Big Butter and Egg Man, Always True to You in my Fashion, Let's Fall in Love, See Saw, I Can't Get Started, Nevertheless, This Can't be Love, Melange, Alto-tude, McGee's Closet, Body and Soul, A Little Bird Told Me, and Sing a Song of Sixpence. RARE!!!!!!
COPY #1. The cover on this copy has a little bit of fading along the top seam, and there's a small rectangular spot that's discolored on the back cover where a price sticker was undoubtedly removed. Still, it's a clean and nice cover with no major damage. It's EX++. The vinyl is a seldom-played NMINT- to NMINT. Overall, this copy is a solid NMINT-. Due to its incredible rarity, it's $40.00.
COPY #2. Wow! I can't believe I've found another copy of this rare disc. The cover on this one has a tiny bend at upper right, but it's still easily a NMINT cover. The vinyl appears to be MINT, NEVER PLAYED. A beautiful copy, due to the extreme rarity and incredible condition it's $48.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this one has some fading along the top seam and the spine, but otherwise it's in near-perfect condition. NMINT-. The vinyl

JIMMY DORSEY AND HIS ORCHESTRA, ONE NIGHT STAND WITH JIMMY DORSEY, CAFE ROUGE, NEW YORK -- Joyce LP-1048

Here's one of Maynard's very earliest recordings, with Jimmy Dorsey. Nine of the thirteen tracks include Maynard and were taped live at the Cafe Rouge on March 28, 1949. Maynard is featured on the track Body and Soul. A very rare and desirable concert performance by MF. This LP is, of course, long out-of-print, and VERY hard to come by!!!
SORRY! NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

JIMMY DORSEY AND HIS ORCHESTRA FEATURING MAYNARD FERGUSON, "DIZ DOES EVERYTHING" -- Big Band Archives LP-1216

Here's one of Maynard's very earliest recordings, with Jimmy Dorsey. These were FM radio broadcasts that were taped between March and May of 1949. In the 1970s they were transcribed to this LP. Very rare and desirable concert performances by Maynard, who plays on all tracks.
COPY #1. This one has a "NOT FOR SALE" rubber stamp in black on both the front and back cover, and someone wrote the recording dates for each track in ink next to the track timings on the back cover. Although I generally hate it when people write on a cover, this doesn't upset me so much as obviously the owner was doing discographical research which could be helpful to the next owner. I should also note that there's a corner bend and slight abrasion on one corner. Due to the rubber stamps and writing and minor damage on the cover, it's just GOOD+, although it looks to be VG+ from the front. The vinyl has probably only been played a couple of times. It's NMINT. Overall, this one is in the VG+ to EX- range. It's $8.00.

JIMMY DORSEY, THE UNCOLLECTED JIMMY DORSEY AND HIS ORCHESTRA, VOL. 3, 1949, 1951 -- Hindsight Records HRS-165

Here's a rare LP, put out by a tiny record label in Burbank, California, which, to the best of my knowledge, no longer exists. It's a 1970s era LP of a pair of radio broadcast transcriptions from 1949 and 1951. The liner notes don't give the personnel, but it's a pretty sure bet that Maynard's on the tracks All of Me, In a Little Spanish Town, On the Alamo, Out of Nowhere, and Stop, Look and Listen. Every MF discography I've seen credits MF with being on this LP. Very, VERY hard to find!!!
COPY #1. The cover on this copy shows a bit of record ring wear. Otherwise, it's solid in all respects. Let's call it NMINT-. The vinyl is super clean -- NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. Due to its rarity, $14.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this copy shows a bit of record ring wear (minimal). But all four corners have bends to their tips. It's a relatively clean and nice cover, notwithstanding, and rates at least an EX. The vinyl is clean and shiny with just a couple of very light surface scuffs that don't affect play. It's NMINT- to NMINT. Overall, this copy rates an EX+. It's well worth the asking price of $14.00.
COPY #3. Here's another copy of this relatively rare LP. The cover on this one has a bit of surface wear, and on the back, in the upper right corner, someone places a small "x" with a ballpoint pen. Still, this is a clean and tight cover, and easily rates an EX++. The vinyl appears to be never-played. Let's call it NMINT+. Overall, this copy is easily NMINT-, although every deal I know would call it NMINT. Yours for $16.00.
COPY #4. The cover on this one is absolutely like new. It's MINT!!!! The vinyl appears to have been played exactly one time on side 2 only!!! It's NMINT++!!!! Overall, this copy is NMINT++! In this superb, like-new condition, this copy is $19.00.
COPY #5. This copy is MINT, FACTORY SEALED. It's $22.00.
COPY #6. This copy is FACTORY SEALED, but I can see a corner bend through the shrink wrap at upper right. Thus, it's just $18.00.
COPY #7. This copy is MINT, FACTORY SEALED. It's $22.00.
COPY #8. This copy is MINT, FACTORY SEALED. It's $22.00.
