Gustav Brom LPs with Maynard Ferguson

POZDRAV ORCHESTRU, GUSTAV BROM SE SVYM ORCHESTREM (CZECHOSLOVAKIAN RELEASE) -- Supraphon 1115 3121-22

This is a Czechoslovakian double gatefold compilation LP, released in 1981, of various artists performing over the years with the Gustav Brom Orchestra. Included is MF on a 12/17/68 version of At the Sound of the Trumpet. A very, very rare recording on an equally rare LP!!! Extremely hard to find!
COPY #1. The cover on this one has very minor corner bends at upper left and lower left -- hardly peceptible. On the back cover, there's an abrasion toward the left edge, about 2" long. Still, even with the small faults, it's a very nice, clean cover, rating a NMINT-. The vinyl is a super clean and nice NMINT+!! I'm not sure it's ever been played. Overall, this copy is NMINT! Yours for $50.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one is a relatively clean and nice NMINT. The vinyl is likewise a nice clean NMINT. However, on one label on each disc, someone took a black marking pen and make a horizontal mark on the label. I'm not sure why this was done. Anyway, this is a slightly detracting factor. I would have priced this NMINT copy at $135.00, but due to the ink on the labels, let's make it $45.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this one is clean and nice, but the laminate was applied sloppily. It's a little wrinkled in some spots, and a little rough in others. It's still an attractive cover, but the laminate condition reduces it from NMINT to just EX. The vinyl appears to be MINT on one disc, and NMINT++ on the other. It's splendid! Overall, this copy is NMINT-, with the only problem being the laminate condition. Due to that laminate problem, this copy is only $30.00.

GUSTAV BROM ORCHESTRA, MAYNARD & GUSTAV (CZECHOSLOVAKIAN RELEASE) -- Supraphon 1 15 0716

This is the 1969 Czechoslovakian STEREO recording of Maynard with Gustav Brom's Orchestra on the tracks Maria, Got the Spirit, and At the Sound of the Trumpet. I remember we kids were all sitting around the U.S. in those days, thinking Maynard had blown his lip and was gone forever, and here he was in Czechoslovakia, nearly BURNING DOWN THE STUDIO!!!!! We didn't find out until later, and when we did, we just COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS PLAYING!!!!! Outstanding. These Czech LPs were once very rare here in the U.S., but many have been sold on the internet in recent years by eastern European record dealers, so the price has dropped from what it was in the old days, and they now easier to find. I recently dropped my price by $40.00 per copy over what they went for in the good old days.
COPY #1. The cover on this copy is super -- NMINT! The vinyl is likewise NMINT! This copy has a BLUE label with silver print. So here's a great, collectible NMINT copy. $19.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one is a very nice NMINT-, with the only problem being just a little record ring wear visible only on the back of the cover as well as some tny writing in one spot at upper left. The vinyl is NMINT! The label on this one is YELLOW-TAN with black print. It's a great, highly collectible NMINT- to NMINT copy, with a rare label, priced at $17.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this copy is NMINT on the front, but on the back someone took a fine blue marker and made a large "Z" in one stop, and placed a small "X" next to one of the tracks. This reduces this cover to just EX. The vinyl has a blue label, and is NMINT. Overall, an EX++ copy. $14.00.
COPY #4. The cover on this one is a very clean NMINT! The vinyl has a blue label and is a clean and nice NMINT, as well. Overall, this copy is a beautiful NMINT! $19.00.
COPY #5. The cover on this one is missing a little of the clear laminate at upper left, and there's a 3" seam crack at bottom center. It's a nice looking cover, but due to these two small problems, it's just EX+. The vinyl is a clean and nice NMINT, but there is a small tear on one side of the label where a sticker was removed. This reduces the condition of the vinyl to just NMINT-. Overall, this copy is very nice, but slightly flawed, EX++. $14.00.
COPY #6. The cover on this one is a relatively clean and nice NMINT-. It's quite nice. The blue-label vinyl looks like it might have been played once or twice. It's a beautiful NMINT+. Overall, this copy is easily NMINT. It's $19.00.
COPY #7. The cover on this one has only two tiny flaws ... small writing on the back in the upper right corner, and a spot of slight discoloration on the back in the bottom right corner. Otherwise, it's really clean and nice, and still easily rates a NMINT-. The disc is an ultra clean and nice NMINT+. I don't think it's been played more than once. Overall, this copy is NMINT. It's yours for $19.00.
COPY #8. The cover on this one is a very nice NMINT-, with the only issues being just a slight bend at lower right and a little record ring wear visible only on the back of the cover. The vinyl is NMINT! The label on this one is YELLOW-TAN with black print. It's a great, highly collectible NMINT- to NMINT copy, with a rare label, priced at $17.00.

GUSTAV BROM ORCHESTRA, MAYNARD FERGUSON + GUSTAV BROM (EAST GERMAN RELEASE) -- Amiga Jazz 8 55 558

This is the East German version of the 1969 STEREO recording of Maynard with Gustav Brom's Orchestra on the tracks Maria, Got the Spirit, and At the Sound of the Trumpet. These were impossible to get in the West until the fall of the Berlin wall about 10 years ago. Even now, they're SUPER RARE!!! The cover is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from the Czech version. One collector I know refers to it as the grafitti cover -- the words "Maynard / Ferguson / & / Gustav / Brom" are scrawled in black paint on a yellow and orange background. The liner notes, of course, are in German. The covers are of very thin stock, and are highly susceptible to bends and creases. An absolutely RARE and important contribution to any serious MF collection.
COPY #1. The cover on this copy has a minor bend in the bottom right-hand corner, and there's just the very beginnings of a seam split in that same corner. Still, it's a very nice, clean cover, in NMINT- condition. The vinyl is NMINT-, as well. Overall, this is a really nice copy, in NMINT- condition. Ultra rare and desirable, $40.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one has a little record ring wear visible on the front, and a little roughness along the opening slit on the back cover. Still, these are minor flaws, and it's still a NMINT- cover -- clean and nice. The vinyl is NMINT-, tending toward NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT-. Ultra rare, highly collectable, $40.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this one is one of the nicest I've seen. It's easily NMINT. The vinyl has a few ultra, ultra fine surface scratches. I played it to check them out, and the only thing I could hear was just a tiny bit of background noise in some quiet passages. I'd rate the vinyl is NMINT-. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. $47.00.
COPY #4. The cover on this one is one of the nicest I've seen. It's easily NMINT. The vinyl has a few ultra, ultra fine survace scratches. I played it to check them out, and the only only thing I could hear was some very light noise in a couple of places. I'd rate the vinyl as NMINT- to NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. $47.00.

TONY SCOTT AND MAYNARD FERGUSON, LOS GRANDES DEL JAZZ (SPANISH PRESSING) -- Sarpe GJ-85

This is Spanish compilation LP which has the Tony Scott on Side A and Maynard Ferguson on Side B. Maynard's tracks include Maria, Got the Spirit, and At the Sound of the Trumpet from his session with Gustav Brom. The cover is unique and this is a very hard LP to find.
COPY #1. COVER ONLY. When I received this LP the cover was in beautiful NMINT to NMINT+ condition, but the vinyl was broken. So this is the cover ONLY. Just $5.00 for this rare album cover.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, EUROPA JAZZ -- Europa Jazz EJ-1002

This is an Italian compilation LP which supposedly has MF on the tracks Pilatus and Foggy Night from the Maynard & Gustav LP. However, in recent years, we've learned for certain that Maynard did not appear on these two tracks! So here's an LP purporting to have Maynard on it, showing his picture on the cover, and crediting him with two tunes on which he didn't play!!! Oh, well, all the collectors I've talked with still tend to believe that this one belongs in their MF collection, because it was an honest mistake, he's on the cover, and at the very least it can be considered as collateral material. Just be forewarned that he's only one the cover, not on the disc. Just the same, a rare and desirable LP, with Sarah Vaughan, Charlie Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie, and, of course, the Gustav Brom Orchestra.
COPY #1. The cover on this copy has several spots of brownish "foxing". On every cover I've seen, there is a little of this, and this one is no exception. Otherwise, it's in very nice shape. Let's call in NMINT-. The vinyl is NMINT-, as well. Overall, it's NMINT-. $10.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one has a couple of very faint toning spots at upper right where price stickers were removed. There's no damage to the cover, just two faint discoloration marks. They're very minor. There are also very, very minor bends on the very tips of three corners. It's a clean and nice cover, but due to these tiny flaws, I'll downgrade it from NMINT to EX++. The vinyl is a very clean and nice NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT-. $10.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this one has a bit of surface wear overall, a dinged upper left corner, and a tiny bit of staining in the lower right corner. It's EX- to EX. The vinyl is NMINT- to NMINT. Overall ... this copy is EX+. Yours for $5.00.
COPY #4. This copy is MINT, FACTORY SEALED. Yours for $12.00.
COPY #5. The cover on this one has some VERY light surface wear and a very small crease. It's still EX++. The vinyl is MINT, NEVER PLAYED. Overall, it's NMINT- to NMINT. $11.00.
