Snooker!!

While in England I had to find a hobby.  I needed something to go and do in my spare time and pick up on a social scene.  I went out occasionally but that can get expensive.  Jon had been showing me a bit about how to play pool.  I picked up on it and wanted to get better.  One day Jon brought me to the 147 Snooker Club in Weston-s-Mare and Bruce began to teach me.  It's a slow process but I do enjoy a game.  The main thing I must emphasize about it is:  Snooker is NOT Pool!  They are both cue sports where you pot balls into pockets but that's where the similarities end.  What is frustrating is that now I'm home, nobody knows what snooker is or how it is played!  I have included some pictures and links for those who enjoy snooker.  Or, if you haven't a clue what it is you can find out here!

My turn!

The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.  This is where the World Snooker Championships are held every year.

Naturally, Jon and I decided to go in April.  This is our view of the tables.  The theatre is so small and it's strange to think this is where it all happens!

A sign advertising on the outside of the theatre.  Tickets were only about £7.50 to see the match.  Bargain!

Jon and I saw Ken Doherty play Greame Dott.  Here, Dott prepares to take his shot!  It was neck and neck all the way but Ken ended up winning the match by one frame.

On the other table, McManus was playing Marco Fu.

The coverage from the TV!  Once you've seen it live it's hard to look at it on TV in the same way.

A predicted shot from the commentators.

Ken on TV waiting for his turn.

Jon and I in front of the Crucible with our programme.  What a great day out!
