Nugget

Hello!! Dusty here again to tell you about my Mother.....

Nugget was 2 years old when Debbie got her for an eighth grade graduation present. She was a beautiful golden palomino. And big too! Almost 16 hands. Over the years they did everything together…even got into trouble a few times! She was Debbie's best friend and companion. They use to ride in parades, herd cattle and trail ride. Nugget even went to college with Debbie. She had to stay in a stable and couldn’t wait for her to come each day and take her for a ride.

When Nugget was 16 years old Debbie decided it was time to create another "little Nugget" and bred her to a great big Appaloosa. Well, she didn’t get another palomino, instead she got ME! And I am all appaloosa! Nugget was a good mom and taught me everything. We had many great times together. When Nugget started getting slower and feeling old we let her stay home and Debbie would ride me.

Then one day in May of 1996, when Nugget was 31 years old, a terrible thunderstorm came up and Nugget didn’t like the hail so she went under her favorite tree for shelter. I was at the other end of the field when all of a sudden a bolt of lightning hit the tree and when all the dust clear my Mom was dead. She never knew what hit her. Debbie was very upset but knew that now she was at peace and didn’t have anymore pain. We buried her on the little hill behind the barn and I go there every day to say hello.
