The Vampires
You come out at night
That's when the energy comes
And the dark side's light
And the vampires roam
You strut your rasta wear
And your suicide poem
And a cross from a faith
That died before Jesus came
You're building a mystery
You live in a church
Wear you sleep with voodoo dolls
And you won't give up the search
For the ghosts in the halls
You wear sandals in the snow
And a smile that won't wash away
Can you look out the window
Without your shadow getting in the way
You're so beautiful
With an edge and a charm
But so careful
When I'm in your arms
You woke up screaming aloud
A prayer from your secret god
You feed off our fears
And hold back your tears
Give us a tantrum
And a know-it-all grin
Just when we need one
When the evening's thin
You're so beautiful
A beautiful fucked-up man
You're setting up your
Razor wire shrine
Vampires play an important part of this series. Afterall, Anita is a VAMPIRE executioner. The vampires are dangerous, crazy, and sometimes tragic. Most are power-hungry. Their philosophy,
the more dramatic the show, the more power you have.

Nicholous was the last Master Vampire of the City. She appeared to be in her teens or younger, but
she was really over one thousand years old. She was a cruel little brat who was killed by Anita and
Edward. Nicholous had hired Anita, against her will, to find the vampire killer that had been
plaguing the city.

Valentine was a blast from Anita's past. When Anita had just begun executing vampires Valentine
attacked Anita. He nearly tore her arm off in the struggle, and in return Anita doused Valentines face in holy
water, scarring it badly. He died when Nicholous died.
Mr. Oliver and his "posse" were enigmas. Most of the posse were were each over a thousand years old, and Mr. Oliver himself was about a million. Mr. Oliver died during a battle against Jean Claude when Anita
shoved a stake through his heart. Alejandro, one of Mr. Oliver's posse, died when Anita ripped his
heart out with her bare hands.

Serephina was the Master of Branson. Her posse included Janus, his two female vamps, Ivy,Xavier, Magus, and Bloody Bones. Serephina had wanted Jean
Claude, his territories, and his "human servant". She had never known, or choose to not accept, the legality of vampires in the US. She gained the aid of Magus, a fey from the unseelie court, and his prisoner Bloody Bones. They gave her immortality and power in return for their freedom from each other.
Asher is a seemingly more and more important person in the books.
At first he'd been identified only as the guy that once had been Jean Claude's lover's Master, but now it has come to light that Asher and Jean Claude had been lovers.
Asher has scars from holy water all along his body, but he has become closer to Anita because of her ability to look him in the face and show him that he is and always has been beautiful.
In the latest installment of Anita Blake, Asher traveled with Anita and fellow vamp Damian into a rival Master Vampire's territory.
Damian is a vampire who was originally brought up in Killing Dance. He was a vamp who Jean Claude ransomed from a night hag (fear inducing) vamp who had a tendency to rot on people. Damian has risen from the dead because of Anita's necromancy twice now, and is bound to her in a strong way that neither know yet.
Collen was a Master who controlled territories near Jean Claude's territory. Collen was a night hag who feared Anita was in his territory to kill him. He died after attacking Anita and her people.
Dead Dave is a bar owner in the Vampire District. He was once a cop but he was kicked off after he became a vampire. He gives Anita some information on the illegal happenings of the District.
