The Winnipeg Arena.

These pictures are from the final season of the Winnipeg Jets, "The Season To Remember," 1995-96. This was also their second last home game, probably the most emotional game I have been to. Here they are facing off against the Detroit Red Wings in the fourth game of the first round in the playoffs. The Red Wings went on to clobber the Jets in this one and take the series in six games.

This is Teppo Numminen, long-time fixture on the blue line for Winnipeg. He has been called the most under-rated defenseman in the league quite often, which is a pretty accurate assessment. This was a rough year for Teppo, having first to see his Finnish teammate Teemu get traded, and then saying goodbye to the city where he first broke into the NHL in 1988-89. I would be glad for his sake alone if the Coyotes ever win a Stanley Cup.

These three players are (from left) Chad Kilger, Craig Janney, and Shane Doan. Kilger was not only very young at the time, but was very new to the Jets, coming over in the late Teemu Selanne deal. Both Doan and Kilger were in their rookie seasons. It was the inspired physical play by the "kid line" with these two rookies that helped Winnipeg pound Detroit by a score of 4-1 in the previous game.
