69 QUEENSWAY Route History

January 20th, 1947

New rush-hour-only route from Bloor Street & Royal York Road via south on Royal York and west on the Queensway to wye at Kipling Avenue. Service provided from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 12:00 noon to 6:30 p.m. Saturdays. Fares are 5¢ for adults, 3¢ for children, with no tickets or transfers.

First and last trips cancelled; 8:30 a.m. trip extended one mile west of Kipling.

March 22nd, 1947

Saturday service cancelled.

March 1st, 1949

Extended west on the Queensway and south on Brown's Line to Long Branch Loop.

All day service started (from 6:30 a.m. until 12:00 midnight), Monday through Saturday.

June 24th, 1951

Sunday service started.

July 1st, 1954

Route now loops clockwise at the north end via east on Bloor, south on Grenview Boulevard South and west on Meadowvale Drive.

October 3rd, 1955

Monday through Friday rush hour branch introduced to serve the Alderwood industrial and residential areas. From Bloor & Royal York over the regular route then south on Wickman Road, west on Evans Avenue, south on Bellman Avenue, west on Valermo Drive and south on Brown's Line to Long Branch.

October 11th, 1959

Rush hour branch revised to run via west on Norseman Street and south on Kipling Avenue, instead of via Royal York & the Queensway.

August 31st, 1963

Last day of operation, replaced in part by a new 73 ROYAL YORK bus on Royal York Road and by a modified 80 QUEENSWAY route running from Humber Loop via the Queensway to Brown's Line to Long Branch. "Norseman" branch replaced by new 37 ISLINGTON service running on Islington Avenue.
