February 26th, 1966

In conjunction with the opening of the Bloor-Danforth subway and the general rerouting associated with it, a new LESLIE route operating from Eglinton Garage inaugurated from Eglinton Station via Duplex Avenue, Eglinton Avenue and Leslie Street to a loop just south of Sheppard Avenue on the grounds of the new North York General Hospital. (Service was previously provided on Leslie between Eglinton and Lawrence by the 54 LAWRENCE EAST bus, and between Lawrence and York Mills by the 25 DON MILLS route.)

January 6th, 1969

Route extended north on Leslie during the day to loop clockwise through Hillcrest Village (just south of McNicoll) via Dexter Boulevard, Cresthaven Drive and Clansman Boulevard. At all other times buses continue to loop at Sheppard.

January 5th, 1970

One bus added in rush hours, reducing headways from 20 to 16 minutes.

January 2nd, 1972

51A Hillcrest Village limited service increased to full service, 18 hours per day, 7 days a week. 51 Sheppard service discontinued.

October 15th, 1972

In conjunction with the 60 STEELES extension to Don Mills Road (which was approved by the Commissioners on September 5th), 51 LESLIE extended north from Hillcrest Village via Leslie Street and Steeles Avenue to loop at Don Mills Road via south on Townsend Road, west on Freshmeadow Drive and north on Don Mills.

March, 1979 to April, 1985 (approximate)

Due to increasing traffic congestion on Eglinton Avenue East, certain northbound morning rush hour trips short turn at Finch Avenue via east and south on Ravel Road, then west on Finch.

Monday-Friday, a.m. rush hours

February 18th, 1996

Hours of service cut back: weekday evenings after 10:00 p.m., Saturday evening after 7:00 p.m., and all Sunday service eliminated.
