Listening to Unforgettable Fire (the U2 tribute band from NYC) and most of us did. I think i can speak for everyone from the DC list that attended that Charley/Bono, Joe/The Edge, George/The Hitman, and Dan/Sparky threw down in Baltimore.
It was their first trip to the DC area and they didn't disappoint. As the opening act left, we made our way to the "a-stage". We're standing with anticipation and what do we hear over the P.A.? Harry's Game. Oh yes, they did! At this point, Bob and Phil start bemoaning the fact that no one has camera, video, or DAT equipment (we won't make that mistake next time). Well, UF opened with Streets. Some of the songs played were (in no order whatsoever), Bad, Ultraviolet, Mysterious Ways, I Will Follow, Pride, Gone, Please, Sunday Bloody Sunday, EBTTRT, Angel of Harlem, All I Want is You, Bullet the Blue Sky, Desire, Gloria, ISHFWILF, One, New Year's Day, WOWY, and they ended with "40".
Charley had Bono down cold. He wore the shiny pants with a black Tee. He had 3 pairs of shades (including The Fly shades and the Popmart ones). When he left the stage during BTBS, he came back in Bono's Castro look. Can you say spitting image. We loved it. He even pulled out the harmonica.
Joe was kicking with Edge's guitar and piano parts. And you thought Larry worked hard at the drums. George had me exhausted by the time he finished. And then there was Dan, emulating the coolness of the Sparkmeister himself.
UF had a crew from NYC that traveled down to support them. If any of you are on Wire, HOWDY! Come on back down this way some time, and make sure you bring UF with you. It's obvious how much work these 4 put in to give the audience an authentic U2 experience. I hope you guys felt our appreciation. Even Better Than the Real Thing? Close, damn close.

The Unforgettable Fire sure comes damn close!!
Wow, wow oh wow! UF kicks ass!Anyway we made it to the club around 10:00 pm because the parkway was backed up forever. We walk into the club, no cover for ladies :) and $5 for a bottomless cup of anything you want! hee hee We spot the DC List's usual suspects at the bar and have to suffer through a horrible opening band (i don't know if it was them or if it was the fact that we were getting anxious to see UF) that sounded like they just played one long song... i think their name was Radio Carolina... i should know he said it like 50 times!
Okay okay on to the show. IT ROCKED!!! Words can not describe! If you missed it GO NEXT TIME!! a few of us were kicking around the idea of going to see them in NYC. Charley (Bono) told us that they are playing the Rock 'n' Roll Cafe on July 17. They are playing the cafe tonight too but its a little short notice :)
Highlights of the show for me were definitely 'Bad', All I Want Is You, With or Without you and of course 40. I mean if i didn't know better you'd swear you are watching bono up there on stage. Charley has got his mannerisms down pat! From the marching in Sunday Bloody Sunday to the little hand wave in EBTTRT! During '40' i closed my eyes and i was back in seattle at the b-stage saying goodbye to PopMart North America.. i almost lost it! The crowd was so great. i don't know how many of us there were but we were definitely loud! The 'how long' part in '40' was great! Charley put the microphone into the audience and most everyone took a turn singing into it. Before they left the stage Charley (just like bono! ha!) took the time to shake people's hands and i got a hug and a kiss! hee hee Met 'The Edge', 'Larry' & 'Adam' by the pool tables after the show. really really really nice guys. They were super excited that they had such a great turn out in BFE, Maryland! The security guards literally had to kick us out! Around 2:30 we were in the parking lot.. no cars except for ours and who comes strolling out of the club? Charley! HA! he says 'what are guys still doing here?!' He came out to talk to us for a while and he is a great guy. He was thanking us profusely for coming out to see them, he also asked if we thought this was a good location for them. We all agreed that they would have had even more people if it had been a DC club. I told him about the DC list and that there are about 40 or so of us. I also told him that alot of you wanted to come but that it was kind of a commute for some folks. and you know what he said??? He said 'wow, that breaks my heart' :( he wants you guys to come!!! so come to the show next time! you will not regret it!! We said good bye, i got another hug and a kiss (man, if only i got that lucky with bono LOL just kidding!) and we headed home. got home around 4 am, exhausted but very happy.
love & lemons,
