MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEETING; WEDS. 12 August 98;

The general meeting was called to order by our president Bill Johns, at 7:15 pm , with nine members present.

OLD BUSINESS - CLUB DIVE

Nothing much to report at present as stated by those who attended the last scheduled club dive. Which many considered a not so pleasant hike in the woods (no trees but lots of poison oak along the trail side) . Resulted in the unanimous decision to go someplace (or anyplace) else. Who chose this spot anyway? Smile.- The next selection was either Moby Ling Cove which was a washout, then on to good old faithful always good in a pinch Monastery Beach. What was found there was a little surge, and viz from 8 - 10 feet. Not the greatest day in the water for the 7/26/98 club dive! Well maybe next time. Paul Pearah says he contacted Aquarius Dive shop in Monterey and that they reported the viz was considered good for that weekend. Other members activities included Free Diving at Linda Mar Beach by Steve Lopez and Dave Sauter on 7/25198 Viz was up to 20 feet the water was generally calm and negative surge. Steve reports that even though he and Dave were in the water looking for Halibut and didn't have much luck on that he did see an unusual number of dungeness crabs.

SO WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING OUT THERE IN THE DIVING WORLD?

NEW BUSINESS / PLANS

1.) THE NEXT SCHEDULED DIVE IS AT OCEAN COVE ON AUGUST 22, 1998-- LOW TIDE IS AT- 0516-- HOURS. This is a CAMP OUT - POTLUCK AFFAIR so bring something to share with the other divers who show up. Steve promises that, there will be abs for sure. There will also be tank diving from shore. Dave Sauter may bring his boat so if you're planning to go you can check with Steve and sign up for a real fun dive trip.

HOW TO GET THERE? LAND ROUTE VISTA - Use hwy 101 north to Santa Rosa, at the north end of town you'll find River Road. Take the off ram, I cross over the freeway going towards Guerneville continue on to the coast. At hwy 1 turn right and go to Ocean Cove Store. The campground is located right across the street. SEA VIEW VISTA --Use hwy 101 north and go to Petaluma. Turn off at Lake Street going towards the coast, turn left at Petaluma Valley Ford Road and continue on it will become hwy 1. Continue on up to Ocean Cove. Camp ground across the street. Air fills available $5.00.

2.) If you plan on making this (for sure) dive trip there is a lot to see even if your just diving and a wet water tourist. But if you plan to take part in any fishing or ab taking be absolutely sure you have in your possession a valid game taking license. IT MUST HAVE AN ABALONE STAMP! You also must have a caliper to size your take. Be sure to bring afloat and the standard ab iron. Spear fishing is usually great, lots of sea life. Campgrounds have showers. Plan to come early and stay late.

3.) Share- a-boat dive with the Tandem Dive Club cost $60. two tanks on the Silver Prince out of Monterey. Scheduled for July 25, 1998, 7:30 am. Call ELAINE at Tandem Dive Club (831/462-6687) to set up your spot on the boat. (Can anyone who went write an article on this dive -this newsletter is sorely lacking for info.)

The Saturday night meal is potluck but anyone who knows Steve's trips you'll always have fish and abs. We're sure that he will show any new comer HOW TO CLEAN-UM and CUT-UM up. Jeff Young is scheduled to do another weekender at Big Sur this year, at present its to be a camp and dive in September.
