MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEETING; Wednesday 10 JUNE 98; 7:10
The general meeting was called to order by our president Bill Johns, at 7:10 pm with eight members present.
OLD BUSINESS
The scheduled club dive which took place on June 6,7-98 " 6th Annual PEACE DIVE BOAT"-- trip was was discussed by those present and all those who were participating on this trip. All of the members who went on the trip stated that it was the dive event of the year bar none. That this type of trip should be done at least two or three times a year. Both here in Northern California and also down on Southern California too. No specific dates nor did a volunteer step forward to try and come up with more details for this new idea for a club trip. Tony says that the boat left the dock at 0110 HRS on Sat. morn but everyone was on board well in advance of the departure, after waiting for Tony and Jim who went to Walmart in search of a computer battery. Through out the trip it was reported that there was plenty of food and drink to satisfy the club dive crew's hunger. In all there were six dives on the first day and five dive the second day getting back to the dock by 5:30 PM Sunday night. Everyone agreed it was a hell-of-a-trip.
The next order of business was the attempt to set up a contact with another local dive club Paul Pearah says he has been in contact with those interested via the internet but no specifics as of yet. He indicated he continues to monitor and try to work something out with other local clubs. Tony was in touch with Russ of CALIFORNIA SPORTS DIVERS CLUB who meet at Harry's Hoffbrau in Mountain View. He stated that he would let us know what's going on for their club he also thinks its a good idea to keep in touch. Several members are voicing opinions that we as a club should not limit ourselves to just planning to dive just once a month. That maybe we should make more K.K.D.C. events closer together,- What do you think? How about some more input.

Steve Lopez is going to do some clamming in the upcoming week at LINDA MAR BEACH get in touch with him to get a idea as to the place and dates as Steve harvests the low tides So first of all you'll need to know the times of the proper tide, also very important to contact Steve as he is a storehouse of knowledge on the subject. The clam- dig can be a very muddy and dirty event but you'll really have fun learning how.
The August club dive event is hosted by Steve Lopez and listed as a camp out at Ocean Cove. The club buys the campsites for those who sign up with the dive host. This always a big event there will definitely be a two tank dive, plus FREE-DIVING for the normal four ab limit. The Saturday night meal is potluck but anyone who knows Steve's trips you'll always have fish and abs. We're sure that he will show any new comer HOW TO CLEAN-Um and CUT-UM up.
Jeff Young is scheduled to do another weekender at Big Sur this year, at present its to be a camp and dive in September. Jeff is talking about doing the weekender at LIME KILN STATE PARK there should be lot's of diving and also exploring the hiking trails that surround the park, so be sure to bring your boots. Also don't forget to bring your firewood for the usual campfire story circle --- a boatload of scary stories would help too. GENERAL MEETING ADJORNED AT 8:00 pm.
REPORT OF THE PEACE DIVE BOAT, SIXTH ANNUAL TRIP: BY TONY FERRARA
After an extremely pleasant 5 1/2 hour trip, driving at a sate and sane speed (Hurry Up Tony, I want to get there!) Mary and I finally arrived at the Ventura Harbor landing. And I want to tell you that the directions are not exactly correct. It's really take Hwy 101 south to Ventura, Take the SEAWARD off ramp and left on to Harbor blvd. Turn right onto SEAWARD STREET and go straight ahead down Harbor to Spinnaker, which takes you to VENTURA HARBOR MARINA. and the dive boat. Well that out of the way, we'll continue. As I told everyone during the sale of the tickets, Captain Eric Bowman wanted everyone aboard before 12:30 am because a trip to the outer islands does take quite a time in sea travel Anyway he was ready to leave at that time but because I discovered that my dive computer was in need of a "J" battery Dive Buddy Jim Trayer and I went off to the local Walmart. Trouble was it was in the next town, round trip was at least 45 minutes, but we got back in time as the Peace was straining at the dock lines really ready to go without us, I'm sure now that they didn't leave without us because I had the club's checks. The trip to San Miguel was an event in itself, pitch, roll and yawl all the way I got some sleep but I didn't hear a lot of snoring on the way out. I got up at 0600 and had breakfast but hit the sack again. The 1st. dive was at 0700 Boomerang Bank on the ocean side of the island, about 90 ft or so. (although I logged the dives - I can't find the book, Anyone got it?) Viz was not too great. but then things opened up for us as all the dives the rest of the day were fantastic. Water temp was always about 53+ degrees, Viz opened up to 40 feet, and a total of seven dives that day, including a night dive. We relaxed to a sit down dinner and a safe harbor for Saturday night Sunday started nice and early, chow at 0600 first dive at 0700 then a move to Santa Cruz island for three dives near Painted Cave, Capt Eric took us inside the cave which is always fun. Jim was able to get a lot of video and its going to be fun to watch. Hope more club members will sign up next year, because we had a heck of a good time well worth the distance to the days of diving we enjoyed.
