MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEETING; WEDNESDAY 4/8/98, 7:00 PM.

The general meeting was called to order by our new president Bill Johns, who finished out the elections, getting commitments from previous office holders who answered in the affirmative that they would continue in their prior positions. Therefore we have a full board of officers; Pres.Bill Johns, V.P.-Paul PEARAH, Treas.-Jeff Young, Safety Officer - Scott Kern, Sec/Hist.Tony Ferrara.

The next order of business was a discussion of the club's scheduled dive for the month of March 98. This event was the Chocolate Abalone dive which took place at San Carlos Beach in Monterey. We were informed by those attending that there were five club members at this event. All of them went into the competition without tanks and attempted to free dive. But unfortunately no one was lucky enough to snag any sort of a prize. A more detailed report should follow shortly from the dive host.

Member Steve Lopez, got up and talked about a recent trip with other club members going after Horse neck clams at Tomales Bay. Although there was a camera and picture taking, no exposures survived . According to Steve, this area of beach is not harvested too often therefore the clam dig was very successful with most of them being in the 1-2 lb. range. Evidently Larry and Patty King worked real hard for theirs. Jeff Young's chase was at the direction of his son Anthony who was telling Dad how to do it. Then that Saturday night a good neighbor dinner was held. Featuring the catch of the day including Jack smelt and Clams. Steve also explained how to build a good water pump and use it to your advantage. The next scheduled club event is the annual opening day for Abalone season, The Ft. Ross cabin has eight people scheduled , but Steve said Gary ,the owner, indicated that the cabin could now handle ten so he was asking if anyone else is interested in attending this real fun event, Steve said there was going to be a low tide so there are some new places even it there is heavy surf, like "Old Folks Cove" he felt would be good. Call him if you are interested in a mussel and ab good time. Steve's phone is (408)263-3536. The May scheduled club dive is for May 9, 1998 at CORAL ST / or /Butterfly house. It will be hosted by Dave Sauter (408)378-2323 who would need any interested divers to contact him and reserve a spot There is also a chance for a club camp out at Ocean Cove that can be worked in here if it is agreeable to everyone.

The annual PEACE DIVE BOAT TRIP is scheduled for the weekend of June 6-7, 98, at the Ventura Harbor. V.P. Paul Pearah spoke about the yet to be scheduled upcoming Cozumel / Caribbean -get together- vacation trip presently on the calendar for the month of December 98. The present estimate is for the price range of $ 650. - $1000. for a week. He has worked up an exposure estimate which is attached to this newsletter for your perusal and consideration. It is known that almost all flights into Cozumel originate out of Miami, Florida. So if you have frequent flyer miles this is a great time to cash them in.

F. Y. I. BULLETIN BOARD

President BILL mentions he has come across a newsletter from North Peninsula Dive Center Mt. View, that has a long article in it that describes damage to the underwater environment in and around the Monterey Bay area. It seems as though the sentiment of the local business people in the area is to stop divers from using the underwater park.

Better do it now!
