REVIEW:
After revealing his identity to the world during the Civil War, Peter Parker find himself and his family targets of the world's most dangerous criminals. Recently, his Aunt May was shot by a sniper's bullet and now barely clings to life. Peter has donned his old black costume as a dark warning to the world that he’s no longer the man he used to be.

While on a date with Daily Bugle reporter Betty Brant, Flash Thompson was being mysteriously stalked by Midtown's High school nurse, the mysteriously named Miss Arrow. For months, the questions around Miss Arrow have grown: From her contact with Spider-Man's old villain Mysterio (and a mention of her "superiors") to odd-looking stingers growing straight from her wrist. Now in the darkest moment of Peter Parker's life, Miss Arrow may be about to drag him further down.

One more thing. Kelly Kulick is a real-life former member of the Team USA bowling team and the first woman in history to earn a Professional Bowlers Association tour exemption. She's also a close friend of Flash Thompson’s…and may end up being the last person to see him alive.

ACT 1: When the twelve-part storyline dubbed "The Other" concluded a year and a half ago, we were left with questions as to what had happened to the new creature that had emerged from the corpse shell that Peter Parker had shed during his miraculous resurrection and that had subsequently concealed herself within a cocoon hanging below the rooftop overhang of a church. That question is answered in the opening pages of this issue, as it is revealed that the creature is none other than Nurse Arrow, Midtown’s High school nurse, who seems to have developed a deadly infatuation with Flash Thompson. As Nurse Arrow converses with (the shadow of) a large spider, her name is actually revealed to be Ero, which – when pronounced – sounds like "arrow". The shadowy spider tells Ero that, in order to survive, she is to reproduce or else face extermination at the hands of their natural enemies; no doubt making reference to Spider-Man. Ero replies that she has already selected a mate – Flash Thompson – and that she plans to make him her mate, her host and then, her sustenance.

ACT 2: Outside County Memorial Hospital, Spider-Man watches helplessly as Aunt May fights for her life, being kept alive by an assortment of electronic machines, including a ventilator. Peter is angry with God for allowing his aunt to be in so much pain. He now regrets unmasking for the simple reason that he feels that his aunt was hurt because of his actions. When spotted by a civilian, he web-slings away.

ACT 3: Betty Brant shows up unannounced at Flash Thompson's apartment, where she runs into Ben Reilly, Peter Parker's newly adopted identity. Betty recognizes "Ben" from Deb Whiman's bookstore signing and remarks that she saw him run away minutes before Spider-Man arrived on the scene (as seen in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #15). "Ben" replies that he took off because the Vulture showed up. Not believing him for a second – one can assume she is on to him – Betty enters the apartment without being invited in. "Ben" tries to stop her from coming in, citing that she was not invited in and threatening to call the cops on her. In the ensuing conversation, "Ben" calls her by name, even though they were not formally introduced. Betty picks up on that and starts to cry (she feels bad for what is happening to him), forcing "Ben" to reveal himself as Peter Parker. Betty gives Peter an affectionate and supportive hug, showing him that she is there for him. Peter breaks the ice and asks Betty what she is doing there. Betty replies that they are ought to sit down because "it is a long story".

ACT 4: Aboard a tow truck, Flash Thompson thanks his friend Kelly Kulick for the lift. Kelly teases Flash about crashing his car into a police cruiser and Flash replies that a "crazy lady" was blocking his view (he obviously means Betty). He then asks to be dropped off, as they have arrived at his destination: a bowling alley. Smelling a setup, Kelly asks Flash if he intentionally got her to drop him off there. Flash explains that he has a few guys on his high school bowling team that are getting way too smug and therefore need to be taught a lesson to bring them back to reality (remember Kelly is a professional bowler). Flash offers to buy her a "Wolfgang Puck" cookbook and pay for her rental shoes in exchange for a little bit of her time. Kelly reluctantly agrees.

ACT 5: On a nearby rooftop, Nurse Arrow watches as Flash and Kelly make their way inside the bowling alley. Nurse Arrow is frustrated that Flash has gotten himself another lady and realizes that she has to act soon to satisfy her "hunger" and stay alive. She jumps down from the rooftop and prepares to enter the bowling alley.

ACT 6: Back at the Thompson apartment, Betty reveals that, in some respects, she has never stopped loving him (no matter whom she was with) but has come to accept that he loves Mary Jane and she is all right with the whole thing. Peter feels kind of bad about everything but Betty reassures him that there are no ill feelings between them. With that said, Betty asks Peter what he thinks of Nurse Arrow and whether or not he thinks something is up with her. Peter admits that something is definitely strange about her and suggests that she may be connected to the spiders that attacked Betty. He also has suspicions that something is going on at Midtown High, ever since he found out that the school's principal is dead (as told by the Chameleon from the year 2211). Confused, and seeking more answers, Betty asks what the spiders have to do with his death. Peter replies that he does not know what the connection is; however, he suspects that the spiders are at the school somewhere and surmises that they have eaten the principal. Betty asks if he thinks all this is connected to Nurse Arrow. Peter relates how he was in Flash's office earlier that day, just talking about this and that, when Nurse Arrow unexpectedly walked in the office. Peter barely had time to conceal his identity using his image projector but did manage to do so. He introduced himself to her and then she turned her attention to Flash, asking him to go out on a date, citing that she felt jealous when she saw him with Betty earlier. Flash had to reject her invitation because of the bowling team practice that evening but that is not the problem. What struck a chord with Peter was the fact that his spider-sense did not go off when Nurse Arrow was about to enter Flash's office. Even if she did not pose an immediate danger, his spider-sense should have warned him that someone was coming, as he is trying to keep his identity under wraps. Betty sits down at a nearby computer and tries to find some information about Nurse Arrow over the Internet. Peter suggests she "goggles" the words "spider" and "arrow" to see what comes up. Betty starts reading off some of the most popular hits, as Peter stares in awe at one of the results on the screen. This particular result asks if they meant to do a search for "Spider" and "Ero". Reading the entry, Peter realizes what or whom Nurse Arrow is. Back when he was residing in Stark Tower (before the Civil War), after his death, pirate (cannibal) spiders of the mimetidae family, genus ero, ate the skin of his old body and soon after that, Peter came face-to-face with a creature made entirely of spiders of the genus "ero", which sounds a heck of a lot like "Arrow". Nurse Arrow is that creature.

ACT 7: Speaking of Nurse Arrow, while Flash and his bowling team compete against Kelly Kulick, she shows up and tells Flash that she wants to go out with him right there and then. Flash goes on to introduce her to Kelly, whom ends up being the recipient of one of the coldest "hello" one can imagine. Nurse Arrow turns to Flash and tells him that they are leaving right then. Before Flash can say anything, Kelly steps in front of Nurse Arrow and gets shoved to the ground by her. Flash tries to check up on her but is stopped by Nurse Arrow, whose grip on Flash’s wrist is like a vise grip. Flash tells Nurse Arrow to calm down as he tries to understand what she wants from him. Nurse Arrow is still freaking out so Flash tells her to beat it, prompting her to slam him hard into a nearby bowling ball stand. Just then, Kelly Kulick gets back on her feet – bowling pin in hand – and smacks Nurse Arrow in the shoulder with it. Dozens of spiders immediately appear on her shoulder where Kelly smashed the bowling pin. Before either Flash or Kelly can figure out what or who the heck Nurse Arrow really is, she unleashes thousands of spiders from her mouth, just like "Imhotep" in the "Mummy" movies. Just then, Spider-Man comes crashing through a window and sends Nurse Arrow ("Ero" henceforth) crashing to the ground. Ero gets back on her feet while Spidey spins a large web to protect innocent bowlers. When Spidey vows to send her back to hell, Ero replies that she would not be there if he had not violated the natural order, by cheating death. She goes on saying that she is his nemesis, his opposite number, his significant other, and he will not get rid of her that easily. Having said that, she disappears through a nearby hole along the bowling alley.

ACT 8: Outside, Flash and Kelly try to get away in her truck but Ero, or rather the thousands of spiders that she is made of, attacks them, sending the truck skyrocketing into the air. Flash screams at Ero to let Kelly go, as she has nothing to do with the whole thing. Ero gladly acquiesces and forces Kelly out of the truck. Spider-Man arrives just in time to catch her in mid-swing. After dropping her off on a nearby rooftop, he heads back toward the truck, just as Ero disappears into the sewer system. When Spidey goes to check up on Flash, whom he assumes is still in the truck, he realizes that Ero took him.

To be continued.
