That is, until her father – a guardian of the time stream and a descendent of the Spider-Man mantle – arrested her for a crime she had not yet committed. Though she eventually escaped her virtual prison, the effort drove her completely insane. Soon after, Robin took on the guise of the Hobgoblin 2211 and swore to destroy her father and every Spider-Man that had preceded him by manipulating the natural order. One of her first acts as the Hobgoblin involved traveling to an alternate dimension where Peter Parker's Uncle Ben survived instead of Aunt May and transporting him into our Spider-Man’s reality. This act has threatened the fragile fabric of space and time and potentially doomed the dimension from which this Ben Parker originated. To make matters worse, the Hobgoblin 2211 used Ben to lure Spider-Man into a fight and quickly bested him with her advanced technology and meticulous knowledge of his tactics and his costume's weaknesses. Now she has flown off with the captive Spider-Man, leaving the foreign Uncle Ben to fend for himself in a world where his beloved wife, May Parker, is still alive. ACT 1: Hobgoblin 2211 is holding Spider-Man captive at the Washington Bridge and makes him relive the moment where Gwen Stacy died at the hands of the Green Goblin. Spidey is unimpressed and asks to know what she wants from him. She explains how he can jump from one reality to another and invites him to tag along so that he can reshape his existence as he sees fit. She mentions that he ought to do it for Uncle Ben, which prompts him to inquire about his whereabouts. ACT 2: Aunt May stares at Uncle Ben in disbelief. He goes to grab hold of her but she steps back and slaps him in the face. She then verbally lashes out at him, accusing him of being a doppelganger. Uncle Ben takes offence to that and tries to explain himself. But as he nears her, Jarvis, comes out of nowhere and punches him in the face, telling him to step away from her. Uncle Ben retaliates with a couple of hits that send Jarvis to the ground. Totally taken aback, Aunt May kneels down next to Jarvis to check up on him. Looking apologetic, Uncle Ben mentions that he dreamed about a miracle reuniting them in a hundred different ways, though it was never like what just happened. With that said, he bows his head down and walks away. As he disappears through the crowd, Aunt May comments on the striking resemblance to her late husband. ACT 3: Back at the Washington Bridge, Hobgoblin 2211 reveals that she does not go around realities trying to kill Spider-Man just for fun, she does it to please her father. Calling her insane, Spidey's appendages suddenly spring to life from his back and he propels himself at her at full speed. She dodges his attack by phasing herself out of reality for a brief instant and reappearing a few feet from her original position. She then proceeds to try and blast him with one of her goblin gauntlet but she is taken by surprise by the sudden appearance of her father, Spider-Man 2211, who tackles her and causes the two of them to fall into the river below. ACT 4: In a dark alley somewhere, Uncle Ben is talking to himself when a bum sleeping nearby awakens and complaints about his rants. The bum, who bears a striking resemblance to Uncle Ben, though Uncle Ben does not seem to notice, tells him to get even and slides a gun across the ground. Uncle Ben calls the bum insane but the bum pulls a newspaper out, whose headline reads "Myriad Ways Theory", and explains that scientists say that every choice a person makes creates another dimension or universe; therefore, whatever he does, he will also be doing the opposite, so he may as well do whatever he feels like. Uncle Ben appears to grab the gun but does he? ACT 5: Spider-Man plunges into the river after his counterpart from the year 2211 and Hobgoblin 2211 and grabs onto the goblin's glider, which passes by, heading towards its owner. Spider-Man 2211 and Hobgoblin 2211 are going at it at the bottom or the river, until he gets the upper hand and webs her up. Just then, Spider-Man arrives on the scene and causes the glider to slam into Hobgoblin 2211. The impact frees her from the webbing and allows her to flee the scene on her glider. Spider-Man 2211 calls after her, calling her "sweetheart", which prompts Spider-Man to ask questions. After explaining that Hobgoblin 2211 is his daughter, Spider-Man 2211 takes off after her, closely followed by Spider-Man. ACT 6: As soon as Spider-Man 2211 surfaces, Hobgoblin 2211, who had been waiting, traps him inside some kind of time sphere. She then proceeds to take out one of her retcon bombs, which is a device that completely erases its target from existence, and prepares to throw it at him. Spider-Man 2211 pleads his case, hoping to buy some time, but Hobgoblin 2211 is beyond help and she throws the bomb at him. Thankfully, Spider-Man emerges from the water just in time to save his counterpart from the year 2211 and throw the bomb back towards its sender. The bomb hits Hobgoblin 2211 square in the chest and she starts to disappear out of existence, to the horror of her father. Confused as to what just happened, Spider-Man asks what happened to her. Heart-broken, Spider-Man 2211 explains that she does not exist and will never exist either. Again confused, Spidey asks what he means and what will happen of Uncle Ben. Spidey-2211 explains that he’ll fix everything and send back Uncle Ben to where he belongs. Spidey doesn't want to have to say goodbye again but Spidey-2211 puts things into perspective for him when he mentions that his memories of Uncle Ben will live on, whereas his memory of his daughter will quickly start to fade away, since she does not exist, nor has she ever existed. Spidey asks if he killed her to which Spidey-2211 replies that he cannot kill someone who never existed in the first place. Having said that, Spidey-2211 takes off into the night. ACT 7: Spider-Man 2211 finds Uncle Ben at the cemetery, presumably staring at his own grave. After introducing himself – though not revealing the year he came from – Spidey-2211 tells Uncle Ben that he's come to get him back to his reality, so that he can properly fulfill his destiny. When asked about this destiny, Spidey-2211 explains to Uncle Ben that, without him, his whole world experiences total disaster. Uncle Ben comments that it is hard to believe that one man can make such a difference. Spidey-2211 replies that, if he is the right man, he can make all the difference in the world. His eyes tearing up, Uncle Ben tells Spidey-2211 that he is but a scared old man. Spidey-2211 grabs hold of Uncle Ben and gives him a hug. As he does so, gunshots are fired and Spidey-2211 falls to the ground, with gunshot wounds to the chest. Gun in hand, Uncle Ben thanks Spidey-2211 for his encouragement, and mentions that one man, if he is the right man, can make a world of difference, which is why he's decided to stay a little while longer. As the issue concludes, another Uncle Ben, this one dead, is seen lying in a dark alley, underneath a pile of newspaper. What does this mean? Reviewer's Note: If you paid close attention in this issue, you will have noticed that the Uncle Ben that killed Spider-Man 2211 has yellow eyes, whereas the Uncle Ben that confronted Aunt May and that is dead in the alley has blue eyes. So who is this evil Uncle Ben? I'm sure that, in due time, we will find out. The end...for now.
