HISTORY: Of all the super-villains that Spider-Man fought throughout the years, Carnage is undoubtedly the most violent and brutal adversary the wall-crawler has ever encountered. Even before gaining the powers that led to the creation of his nefarious alter ego, Carnage, Cletus Kasady had already committed several anis crime as a notorious serial killer. His first victim was his own father and Kasady even claims to have murdered his own mother too. He spent most of his childhood as an orphan at the St. Estes Home for Boys in Brooklyn, New York and was later transferred to another establishment when a fire burned the latter. Somehow Kasady had managed to survive the ordeal but most of his classmates as well as the home’s dean of discipline had perished in the blaze. It was later speculated that Kasady himself had started out the fire that had destroyed the Home but no evidence had been found to prove it. By the time Kasady reached his early twenties, he had been convicted of first-degree murder eleven times, although he bragged about a dozen more.

It was in Ravencroft Prison, where Kasady had been sentenced to life imprisonment that his life took a drastic turn. Kasady was sharing a cell with none other than Eddie Brock (a.k.a. Venom), who had recently been separated from his alien symbiote. One night however, the symbiote returned and united once again with Eddie, as Kasady watched in amazement. Using his amazing strength, Venom escaped from Ravencroft, but not without leaving a small piece of his symbiotic costume behind. That "small piece" was in fact an offspring of the Venom symbiote looking to bond with the nearest human being and so it did. The offspring merged with Kasady, forming the psychopathic killer known as Carnage.
