HISTORY: The Black Tarantula (a.k.a. Carlos La Muerto) is a shadowy international criminal mastermind who has apparently lived for centuries. It is rumored he gained the gift of immortality while training with a mysterious sect of Eastern assassins, although the Black Tarantula persona may have actually been a generational legacy passed on from father to son. He currently resides in a castle somewhere in the jungles of Bolivia but has come to New York at several occasions to personally try and take control of the city's criminal underworld. He first fought Spider-Man when Norman Osborn offered a five-million dollar reward for the web-head's capture. A phenomenally skilled combatant, he's succeeded in beating and unmasking Spider-Man. Spider-Man later dropped in on the Tarantula's home turf and returned the favor by handing him his first real defeat. No much is known about the Black Tarantula's current whereabouts.
