PREVIOUSLY: When the DB runs a story about Jackpot's failed raid at a local warehouse, she heads over there to confront publisher Dexter Bennett. Soon after arriving there, the Skrull invasion begins. A Super-Skrull, impersonating Spider-Man shows up at the DB, looking for the real Spider-Man. Jackpot and the Super-Skrull engage into a fierce battle that spreads outside the DB and into the Manhattan streets. To make matters worse for Jackpot, she is tasked with having to protect Dexter Bennett, as well as Joe "Robbie" Robertson, Betty Brant and Officer Vin Gonzales. Plus, elsewhere, Harry Osborn and Lily Hollister are also on the run from the Skrulls and get some unexpected aid from the villain known as Menace.

REVIEW: The story opens with Spider-Man recounting the events that have taken place in the previous two issues of Secret Invasion – Amazing Spider-Man.

The story then cuts to Jackpot struggling to break free from the chokehold Menace has got her into. Realizing that Menace is going to kill her if she doesn't act soon, Jackpot decides to play dirty and kick Menace in the nuts. Menace does let go of her neck, giving her a chance to try and unmask him. But as she pulls and pulls on his mask, the darn thing doesn't budge, making her wonder whether it is his real face after all. Menace pushes Jackpot off the glider but she manages to catch herself on one of the glider's wings, causing it to spin out of control and smash into a billboard.

Several blocks away, the Super-Skrull that tore off the roof of Joe "Robbie" Robertson's speeding car is demanding to know which one of them is the real Spider-Man. Betty Brant tries to convince the Skrull that it is impossible for any of them to be Spider-Man but he obviously doesn't listen very well, as he grabs Betty out of the vehicle and takes her hostage. As she’s dragged out of the car, Betty yells for Robertson to leaver her and get the heck out of there. Joe prepares to leave when Dexter Bennett exits the vehicle, screaming at the Skrull to unhand Betty. Courageously (or madly some would say), Bennett confronts the Skrull, telling him he should make sure he has the right person before dismembering them. As far as Bennett is concerned, if the Skrull tell his superiors that Spider-Man is dead, but then it turns out the real Spider-Man shows up, he'll be in a heap of trouble. The Super-Skrull appears hesitant.

Just then, who but Menace and Jackpot come crashing into a giant ball of fire right on top of the Super-Skrull. Extracting herself from a mailbox, which she was sent crashing into by the force of the explosion, Jackpot rejoins Dexter Bennett, Betty Brant, Vin Gonzales and Robbie Robertson. When asked what happened to Menace, Jackpot answers that she doesn't see how he could have survived the explosion. It turns out that Menace did survive the explosion, as he’s seen stumbling into a dark alley, seemingly hurt. Jackpot is about to call it a day when the Super-Skrull, which was thought dead, resurfaces. Jackpot tries to buy some time for Bennett, Brant, Robertson and Gonzales to make their escape, by briefly battling the Super-Skrull, who possesses powers like that of Hydro-Man and the Sandman, as well as Electro. The three DB staff and officer Gonzales run into a nearby fish warehouse, while Jackpot gets her ass handed to her by the Super-Skrull. As the two of them battle it out, they end up inside the same fish warehouse as the DB staffers and Gonzales. Realizing that she can make use of the deep freezers inside the fish warehouse, Jackpot tricks the Super-Skrull into following her inside one of them and then manages to shut the door and keep it closed until the Super-Skrull completely freezes over.

A few nights later, Jackpot recounts to Spider-Man what happened while he was away in the jungles of the Savage Land. Spidey founds the apology the DB issued for besmirching Jackpot's name in one of clues of the crossword puzzle on the comics page. Jackpot is disappointed that her trip to the DB was a complete waste of time. Spidey insists that it is more that he ever got from the Daily Bugle. In the mood to tease Jackpot, Spidey shows the recent DB cover, which credits Walter Declun's fish warehouse for saving the day for Dexter Bennett and DB staff. Jackpot is rather unhappy with the DB for publishing such crap. Realizing that it is time for him to go, Spidey takes his leave.

Several days later, at the Coffee Bean, Harry Osborn and Lily Hollister are joined by Vin Gonzales and Carlie Cooper; all of whom are discussing the Skrull invasion. Minutes later, Peter Parker arrives, joining them. Harry is ecstatic that Peter is there, as nobody had seen him since the whole Skrull thing started. Peter mutters a reason for his absence, something along the lines that all forms of communications he had to contact them were down. No one is none the wiser. Peter asks Harry why he is wearing a bandage on his forehead. Harry is about to answer that he doesn't remember when Carlie jumps in the conversation and explains that Harry tripped over his two feet on the sidewalk the day after the Avengers won their fight in Central Park. Harry indicates that they shouldn’t care about a small bump like that and suggests they all have coffee and pumpkin squares all around.

Somewhere in New York, Jackpot is taking a nice warm bath when she gets a phone call from Sara Ehret, telling her that she is proud of what she did to help the DB staff (and Gonzales). Jackpot does not answer her phone but does hear everything Sara has to say to her via the answering machine. Sara ends her call by telling Jackpot to keep up the good work, as the world needs more hero like her.

The end.
