Newbie Helper

Basics

Okay, lets start with the basics, and let me state the assumptions I have made thus far about you. 1. You already have a character, and have chosen a race. 2. You may or may not be a complete newbie, either way you are looking at this site to gain more information about Realms of the Dragon.

type the following lines only if you want to -

inform all on - this allows you to see other players entering and exiting the game.
race on - this turns your race channel on, and allows you to speak to others of your chosen race.
racewho - allows you to see who is online that is a member of your race
brief - With this on, you can move around without seeing the large description of each room. It's recommended to use this.

Now, there are a few Help Files on the mud itself that you can take your time to read if wanted, they are:

help newuser - this file is old and outdated, yes some of the information is still usefull, but we have had a LOT of changes since the last version of this.

help guilds - a list of main guilds, and a brief description of each

help mortal_law - probably the most important file to read, it explains what the immorts will and will not allow you to do here. Its long, so prepare for it.

help concept - states the concept of the mud, good to read if you want to know how things are run..

Thats about it...

Ansi Colours

First, lets make it so you can see our Mud's lovely colours.. type and enter 'term ansi'

Now you can see colours.

Colors

help main_colour

Read the small help file, and choose a colour you would like your says, tells, shouts, and chat channel conversations to be in.

Once you have a colour chosen, feel free to test it out, send random people tells off the 'who' list. Let them know your new and would just like to say hello.
If your satisfied with this colour, and feel it suits you. Lets move on.

HuD - Heads Up Display

This display is used mainly for combat, it allows you to view your Health Points, Mental Points, Experience, Those you are in combat with, along a multiple of other things.
The basic and most widely used form of this is as follows. Just type in and enter the following lines one at a time.

hud linemode on
hud rate 0
hud char 4
hud hp numerical
hud autoclear on
hud xp max on
hud toggle colouring

once finished with this you can type hud rate 1 .. a line will start to scroll across the screen
it should look something like this

Hp: 500(500) Gp: 50(50) Xp: 11245(4000000)

For more information on the HuD, type and read 'help hud' on the mud, it lists more options to use, and explains each one in depth.

Okay, lets check all this over.. you are now able to see colours, you speak in colours, and you have your HuD setup.

Good, lets move on.

General Info

Ok, after all that stuff up there is finished, its time to find a Newbie Guild, and start gaining experience to advance your skills.
In an attempt to make everything easier on everyone. I suggest using the Lirath Newbie Guild, which is located 8n,e of the Cliff Face.
On my main page there is a link called 'Directions' please go here to find directions from your homeland to the Cliff Face, or Great Oak.
From one of these two places, people can direct you to and from places much more easily than from your homeland.

Enter the Newbie Guild and type 'join' and then 'y' to join the guild.
cost all - shows you how much skills will cost to advance to the next level.

To advance you will need the experience shown, plus money to pay the trainer.

Head west out of the guild, then north, and pull the rope that is hanging there.
A man will appear and hand you equipment to wear and a weapon to use. 'equip' this gear, and head north into the fighting area.

At first, fight only one monster at a time... notice during combat your HuD scrolls across the screen at a timed interval. This is called a round.

once you kill a monster, be sure to 'get money from corpses' as this is your first way to gain money to pay for your advancement.

After you have killed a few of them, head back to the newbie guild, and advance how you want. Depending on the main guild you have in mind for later.
'help guilds' provides you with a list of guilds, and a brief description of each.

I suggest advancing fighting first so that you can fight and kill monsters more quickly, which in turn gains you experience and money faster.

After that, do vitality, so you have more hit points, then advance what skills your main guild uses. Once finished with advancing your skills here in the Newbie Guild, 'leave' the guild and head out towards your guild of choice.

This webpage currently does not have directions to each guild, but they will be coming soon, hopefully.

For help finding them and any other help you might need, be sure to use the Support Channel..
It is full not only of helpful immortals, but also players that are willing to help you should you need it.
Also try your race channel, and if none work, as a last resort, do a 'who' and start sending tells at random. Hopefully that will help you out a little bit.

Making Cash!

There are ways to make cash here and there in game, which are pretty simple once you have gone through them a few times.

The easiest way for a newbie to gain money would be to release slaves in the Treeth slave pens.
To do this, head into Treeth from either the East Gate, or South Gate.. (you can get directions from this site)

From the South Gate: 1n,all east,all north,all west,sw,s,all east,north,trapdoor

From the East Gate: 1w,all north,all west,sw,s,all east,n,trapdoor

In this small area, which is L shaped, simply release the slaves, and then get the manacles (worth 6 platinum each) and the cuffs (worth 2 platinum each) then lose the slaves, unless you want them following you around.

After getting the manacles and such from the released slaves, head out of the slave pens, and back out of Treeth.
You are going to need to go sell these things now.

There are shops around that you can sell things to.. 1 of them is in Lirath, another in Pesvint.

From Lirath South Gate: all west,4n,w,2nw ... sell manacles
From Pesvint North Gate: 12s,3e,n ... sell manacles After selling 2 of the manacles to 1 shop, the price begins to drop, so I would suggest, travelling around and trying to find more of these shops that let you sell to them.
You can get around 36 platinum coins from each run through the slave pens, it is an easy and quick way to gain a small amount of cash.

The only thing you need to look out for while doing it is, once you release a slave, the Slave Guards attack you and the slave, because they are escaping.
Just don't get yourself killed.

Tricks of the Trade

Mantazz: He's a mean guy, located u,3s,se from the base of the cliff face. Don't enter this room, he is a tough monster, and WILL NOT let you leave unless he is dead.
at low levels, killing this monster, is impossible.

The Hanging Blue Button: 2n,w from the cliff face hangs a nice shiny blue button, upon pressing it you get ... awesome armours, tons of experience, and the money to spend it all, PLUS some!
Yeah, bullshit... once you press this button, it drops you in a pit where two lovely dragons rip you to shreds. Don't do it.
