6-16-05: How bout that lack of updates huh? OK, I kind of forgot about this little game I was making, but since I was so close to finishing it, I thought I might as well just do it. Finishes the new code for the last guys. Also, I added the Helper! He follows you around and helps you shoot at enemies. This concludes everything in the shop. It is all based on the original phoenix, except for the missles. All that is left to do is: create art for one more bad guy, and just 5 more levels to add! Also, code the "fast" bullets that do lots of damage. After that, it looks as if I'm done. When it is completed though, I am going to post it on a forum to see what people think of it. So, if you are expceting anything to be added once it is done, expect sound. But don't get your hopes up ;).
4-17-05: I'm flyin through this now. More level updates. I've now created a boss that can shoot in 5 different angles. And since it took me one minute to do, it'll take me only another minute to make the guys that shoot in 7 different angles. But to make them move in those squares will probably take longer. After those guys, I only have one more group of guys to code for movement, them all I have to do is finish the rest of the art, and then insert them into the game. Next post, guys that shoot in 7 angles. After that, the game should be completely done.
4-15-05: Hey everyone. Time for another update. Since I'm home sick, I had time to work on this. I added some more levels and tweaked some more code and hopefully it is perfected. Next post, more levels. These shouldn't be to hard.
4-7-05: Sorry for lack of updates, but I kind of got off track. But I think I'm back on it. Added rockets to the store. Now, when this rocket hits a ship, it creates an explosion and damages the ship for as long as the ship is touching it. For example, a ship in the middle usually loses all of its health, while a ship that is nicked on the edge is barely hurt. My next goal is to finish all of the levels. Most of this will be easy, seeing as how I only have the create the code for only a few new aliens, but it'll still probably take a while. After that is all done, I will work on more items for the shop. I have a few good ones, and I still have to add the 'Helper' that is found in the original phoenix. So next post, more levels will be finished.
3-7-05: Yeah, perfected the guys moving in a circle. I had to remove some code, I was just thinking too hard. All I needed to do, was change 1 line. Also added figure eights guys. I might tweak them a tiny bit, but no big changes come to mind. Next post, expect more things in the Shop. After that, probably some more levels.
3-5-05: Made the guys moving in a circle. It took me forever, and this is the best I can get it. I might try to work on it some more, but I'm out of ideas. I went from a 1) circle moving down, then stoping, and it's circle movement was based on where the main 'ship' was located to 2) this, which I think is pretty good. For now, this is how it is going to stay. I'm thinking of how maybe I could fix it, but I might have to recode the entire bullet firing code and testing collisions for both AI bullets and human bullets. Ughh. Next post, guys moving in a figure eight pattern.
3-4-05: Hey, sorry for the delay. I've been doin' other stuff. Health meter bar and shop is done a little better. I messed up on the money code and the 'ppush 1-5 for weapons' code. It should all work now. I decided on whether I should change the art for the money, but whatever. Did a few levels more too. Next time, expect levels with guys moving in circles an in a figure eight patern. After that, maybe some more items in purchase screen...
2-20-05: Well, I made the money fall form the guys, but it isn't exactally how I wanted to code it. My original code wouldn't work and I have no idea why, so I made a much simpler code, but I don't like it. The purchase shop has stuff to buy now. Push numbers 1-5 to actiavte the new weapon. Tweaked the explosions a little bit. Next post, health bar. Plus, I will proabably fix some bugs in the money making code, and fix the art in the purchase screen After that, I will do serious work on new levels.
2-18-05: Changed the quality, it was getting a little laggy, and the right click menu bar. Purchase screen is done...., all I need to do now is add money, and then the purchase screen will have stuff to buy. The levels are kind of accurate, I'm trying to remember how they go. Expect money next time, and actual things to buy. After that, I hope to install a health bar, instead of having a counter go up everytime you get hit. Oops, forgot to make it so explosions happen when you get hit. That'll be finished too.
2-17-05: Area generator is hopefully fully coded. Levels 1 and 2 are not how they are in the game because, I don't have a purchase screen yet. Weapons 4 and 5 are also done. Plan for the next post for their to be a purchase shop after you beat each 'mini boss.' After that, hope to see money fall from enemies and to see explosions when you or the enemy get hit by a laser.
2-13-05: Cha CHING, fixed it. I was so excited, I didn't even fix the spacing or remove the old phoenix (it's changed now). But, there is a problem with the levels, if you don't kill any enemies once a new area begins, the level restarts. Next post, plan to see the boss spacing perfected and the area generator as well. Also level 1 and level 2 will be finished. And, plan to see weapons 4 and 5 finished. Four is done, but it isn't done right.
2-9-05: Well, I've run into a huge problem. This whole time, I thought that I could create different enemies at the same time. For instance, creating a boss and some other bad guys on the same level. But, I can't. I know why it won't work, I just don't know how to fix it. I also don't know why it is doing some of the things that it is doing. I posted it to show you guys what is going on. If I can't fix it, I'll ask some people on a forum, I just hope that I won't have to recode my create_enemies function. :^(
1-31-05: "I can't believe it! It just not believable Cotton!" Wow, alien shots can now shoot in 3 different angles. Now that I know how to do it, it will be easy to make them shoot in 5, even 7 different angles. This one took me a while to figure out, thank god for FlashKit. Next step will be to fine tune some more things with the creating enemies function. Make it so I can state how many angles the guys can shoot in the function, and make it so I can define the rate of fire for those enemies. But you guys won't notice that. Next post, prepare to notice bosses!
1-24-05: Enemies that move in random directions are in the game. Next post, enemies that move randomly will shoot, and those shots can go in three directions: straight, and diagonally left and right.
1-23-05: Bullets are perfected... so far. Next step is to add more enemies because there is a bug in my random move code I have now. Some times, the 'guy' goes against the wall and bounces back and forth really quick. So first, fix that, then insert those enemies into the game. After that, I want to work on having the enemies shoot at you in different directions. This game is really coming along =D
1-22-05: Did some more work on it. Enemies shoot back, though still needs a little tweaking so I can center the bullets on the enemy... The number in the top right goes up once everytime you get hit by a bullet. Added a reset button at the top so you can play it again. Also, I figured out how to make a "ship" move randomly around. I posted it (removed), so expect next time to have the bullets perfected, and more enemies.
1-21-05: Hey, sorry for the lack of working on this project, hoping to make more progress. Weapons are pretty solid now, just have to make weapons 4 and 5. After that, hope to see the enemies shooting back at you.

12-17-04: First post. This is a mod form my catch game which I never finished, as you can tell by the fact that I haven't changed the main guy's art yet... So far, the enginge is off and running, and I can create more levels with ease, sort of. Things to fix, laser collisions: Have the entire laser collide and not just the center, fix the level generator so it'll be easier to use, have enemies shoot at you, have enemies fall down instead of just appearing, have enemies be able to shoot at you in different dirrections, have enemies not just move around in a square, have enemies move around randomly, and make it so I can create a boss. Also, have a Purchase screen, and create money so you CAN purchase things. Wow, I have a lot to do. I really really want to finish this eventually, so expect this one to be actually finished. It will take some time though. I will have more time to work on it over winter break. For now, so long, and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
